My work email has been down all day so far... as has everyone in my company across Europe, that's 10000 people or something... unbelievable and really annoying when I am behind as it is after my day off yesterday!
I am very jealous indeed of you with incoming holidays... I think all my remaining holiday allowance is going on "taking December off" for the new baby. Which is a good thing but not actually a holiday
That was a lovely pic, EA.
All I can do is cheer you on Beenie. SS and everyone else are right, what you need is an 'empowered advocate' who can push this on for you rather than you trying to do it yourself, having no power to and hating every second of it. MP seems like a good call as the right person to do this.
Elijah has developed a new step in his bedtime routine that is mildly annoying... he demands to 'go see streetlights' after they come on for the evening, and stands on the porch looking at them and counting them ("Ooo, streetlight! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, streetlights! Streetlight ON. Streetlights!....") for anything up to 5 minutes while I stand in the hall behind him making sure he doesn't run off into the distance.0 -
Argh - my dad has hurt his back, probably doing something strenuous because he refuses to believe that he should slow down at all, and my parents were supposed to be coming over to have Benjamin this weekend because we are off to London to see Sister Act.
Now we have to go begging to MIL to have Benjamin Friday (CM swapped days with her this week), Saturday overnight and Sunday until we get back.
If we have to cancel I will be gutted. Bang goes my birthday treat.
My dad is okay BTW, he just doesn't think spending 90 mins in the car and looking after Benjamin/not sleeping in his own bed will do him any good.
Edit- sorry to sounds like an ungrateful spoilt cow, especially when poeple have real problems. I'm not, it is just life has been so stressful recently that a babyfree night away was a welcome opportunity to relax.
Bruno - holidays with babies aren't very relaxing so you aren't missing out on anythingHolidays with babies and step-children, no matter how much you love them, are filled with pressure to make sure everyone enjoys themselves.

MFD- Just seen your post. Is there anyway CM could have Benjamin on Sunday as a one off to take the pressure off MIL a bit? Although if she's anything like my MIL she will be over the moon to the hero of the day, and spend the rest of the week phoning round everyone she knows to tell them she has her grandson all weekend

Unfortunately not, CM is away this weekend, which is why she swapped with MIL.
And we booked a matinee performance (so we could go out for dinner and drinkies afterwards) so we need to leave pretty early.
I bet MIL is working on Sat too
I called hubby and he is on the case.please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -

it often says there's no game in when there is, so I don't want to sell it on ebay because I could end up having to refund etc :mad:stupid child of mine breaks EVERYTHING!
I discovered that one of the games has been chewed when I was sorting them too :mad:0 -
All resolved, MIL has got someone else to cover her shift at the pub so she can come and have Benjamin.
I will sort hubby out to relieve her early on Friday.
*and breathe*
Sami - can I ask what punishment you give Chris for damaging stuff?
Following on from our conversation on here I was speaking to CM about Benjamin hitting out this morning and she can only think of one occasion (which happened to be yesterday) when he MAY have hit the CM's daughter.
TBH she quite often gets 'in his face' so it wouldn't surprise me if he had hit her but regardless he does need to know that it is wrong and I need to have a plan of how I want any misbehaviour dealt with so I can instruct the CM.
*wishes she had paid more attention to the naughty step conversation the other day*please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -

Unless you are both much more advanced than my house MFD, Benjamin is still too young to much get the idea of punishment for crimes. The only success we had was stern words immediately on offence (not even 10 seconds later) for him to make the connection - anything taking time was useless. Even now I'd say E is not fully clear on the link at age 2+...
But good luckmaybe we are backward and weak in this regard.

Hmmm - he does understand that hitting is wrong. He knows as soon as he does it and he hangs his head with his lip out because he knows he will be told off.
I hadn't really thought about him being mature enough to make a link....but I was really talking about immediate punishments. And I guess I am looking long term too - start as you mean to go on and all that jazz.
Now I am confuzzled. Can I give you an example and you give me your take on it...
Benjamin hit me with one of his golf clubs, he knew it was wrong and when asked he handed it over to me and I removed it from him as a punishment. I only removed 1 of his 3 golf clubs and told him he could play with the others but he couldn't have that one because he had hit mummy with it.
He moaned a bit about the confiscated one but then he carried on playing with another. He started waving it around near me so he might hit me again so I said to him to be careful because if he hit mummy again then she would take another club off him. I also 'held' the club whilst I spoke to him to get his attention.
Then he picked up his 3rd club and brought it to me and when I said 'gently' he stroked me on the leg with it.
So in this situation has he learned from my actions (and the punishment) or from the conversation?
Or was it all just random!!please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120
