I'm officially sulking coz we said we'd watch a dvd tonight but DH is playing on his xbox. It's my own fault coz I got in a strop about him playing on it this afternoon and I said he should play it while T is in bed. He said he'd play tonight and I said ok but I hoped he'd rather watch a dvd with me! :o I was trying to tidy up and entertain a whingy T at the same time while DH was washing pots....instead of coming to get T when he was done he just started playing! It sounds like I'm being unreasonable BUT I did both night nappie changes then got up with T first thing (DH still in bed) and took T out all morning. We didn't get back till 1.30pm and he was sat in his dressing gown playing xbox and hadn't even put any washing on for me

I know he works hard through the week but we lose all of next weekend as he has friends coming to stay so we really needed to crack on this weekend.

Most of ours were Tesco or Sainsburys. I bought a thickish one (padded rather than fleecy) from Matalan the other day - tis very cute with monkeys on.

What size is he in now...I gave some away about a week ago :(

He's just in 9-12m. I'll try Matalan tomorrow thanks! :D

Gill - join in! We are playing COD

I have a question for the mummies and daddies of fellow spoon or fork wielders...

At the moment Benjamin is doing quite well in feeding himself but it takes him so long (and he eats so much) that he ends up getting bored before he is full...to the extent that after he had 'finished' his tea last night (sausage, potato, broccoli, cauliflower and peas) he asked for a finger roll (they were on the side) and ate a whole finger roll (dry!) because he wasn't actually full.

Do you keep helping them for a while to make sure they get enough food? And when do you stop?

    Sorry - silly question :o

we are at a stage where LO feeds herself completely for most meals, however, If she is really struggling she starts to use her hands, and at this age I'm not bothered by that as she does so well the the fork and spoon otherwise. I do sit with her though and try to encourage her to 'pop it in your mouth' s sometimes she forgets to actually eat the food once its on the fork and just spends ages waving it around. before we got to this stage, we used to use a second fork and pop a mouthful in between her self-fed mouthfuls! But we alway leave her to it with pudding - a great practice ground and it used to give me 5 mins to empty/reload dishwasher or washing machine. Very useful!

Because of DH's habit of sitting with Katie until she falls asleep I normally sit at the top of the stairs reading a book until she falls asleep, as she has a habit of coming out to check I'm still there.

    All asleep now though.

I still help Katie occasionally now if it's a meal that's she's struggled to get stuff on her fork, the issue we have now is that she wants the same cutlery as mummy and daddy so it takes even longer!

We do have a battle sometimes as she says she's full as a way of getting daddy to feed her! I just ignore her when she's like that and after about 5 minutes she starts eating again.

  • He doesn't have a problem feeding himself, with a fork/spoon or with his hands when he struggles (or when he feels like it - he had his hands in his yoghurt earlier!) but he gets bored before he has eaten enough.

I guess we will continue to help him until he can eat quickly enough.

could you split it up into a starter, main and pudding - different bowls/cutlery or make his earlier snacks larger so that he doesn't ahve to eat so much in one sitting?

ALl the boys we know eat so much - LO isn't that fussed:rotfl:
