Well Done Benjamin! That is impressive.

(if you weren't sure on my behalf, don't worry, i already know she'll be late potty training, millie was over 3:eek:)

If it makes you feel better, so was Amelie - she was about 3 years and 4 months before she was potty trained :o

CAFC, he is at the right age for colic I think - it usually starts at 4-6 weeks. He could be comfort sucking the bottle if he is in pain or distressed. Holly had difficulty passing wind and she drank quite a lot. We hadn't intended to use a dummy, but it lived up to it's "soother" tag and definitely seemed to soothe her. Have you tried one? If he is really hungry, I guess he will spit it out and demand a bottle.

If it is colic, there are different remedies you can try (Infacol, Colief, Colacynth and Dentinox). And it doesn't last for ever although it feels like it at the time. Colic tends to occur in the evening though once they have a days worth of milk in them, so after 4pm. You should get a break from it during the day. Keep up the baby massage, doing his tummy in a clockwise direction. If Holly was crying, sometimes things like taking her into the kitchen helped (she would be instantly captured by the big white fridge!) or out into the back garden, or swinging her in her car seat (which prompted us to buy a swing).

    OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH B*GGER!!!!
The dreaded colic.... was really trying (well praying) that he wouldnt get it....

I was aiming not to use a soother, but now maybe perhaps I should give it a go, I've given him a clean finger to suck on whilst we've been waiting for his bottles just to calm him and he has suckled....and so is quieter....
We've even moved onto hungry milk and he just seemed to want to eat all the time, even pre the screaming/crying.

Thanks for the tips, I guess I'll be going out today for Infacol and soothers :)

CAFC - Freddie's also had a stage like that. I'm convinced it was trapped wind - I tried infacol but it didn't seem to have an effect. Some of the mums round here swear by gripe water (which can't be used until they are a month old), so I tried that and didn't think it worked particularly well either. In the end I just perservered with trying to calm him down, and eventually (although I know it's not for everyone) I gave him a dummy to suck on which seemed to help him calm down and then I could continue winding him. In my case it did pass after about a week - 10 days or so.

Edited to add: Just realised Fitzio gave similar advice - sorry!

I have some gripe water here.... but I wasnt sure whether to give it to him or not, today he's 4 weeks, but not a month old till the 18th.... I know its the matter of 2 days but I'm just a total novice and couldnt bear doing anything that makes it worse LOL

he cries so much that he's getting the hiccups. he was getting them fairly regularly but these last forever, and i can tell they exhaust him...

although DH has just come downstairs and told me he's now asleep..... oh well at least I'll have something to talk to the health visitor about when she gets here in half an hour...

CAFC - beware of switching his milk as that can upset their tummys too (but obviously some babies need it). I would definitely suggest you chat to your HV about it if you haven't already. If you try Infacol etc, make sure you give it about a week to see if there is any change. What works for some doesn't work for others but you need to give it at least 4 days to see any effect. We went through them all and ended up with Colief (which is expensive so it's the last one to try!). I think it worked, but then she was at the age to out grow it anyway. But we felt Infacol made a bit of difference for a few weeks too. Just make sure you get some sleep whenever you can if he is up half the night. To be fair, once Holly was asleep, that would really be her for the night. It was just for a few hours in the evening and she didn't cry constantly.
Just try to keep calm and you will find ways of soothing Landen that suits you and him. It's not nice to hear them crying, and I think it is limited as to what you can do other than wait for it to pass.

Restar - Great minds! ;) Love your avvie too!

I'm off to see another childminder now so not got time to respond to anyone else. Have a nice day everyone. x

That does sound very similar - Freddie's dreadful with the hiccups - he gulps in so much air when he's crying, poor mite, that he always gets them.
The health visitor also recommended I try both infacol and/or gripe water, so just ask her if she thinks those 2 days will make a difference, I doubt they will....and good luck, it does pass.

if its possibly from switching his milk, should i return to what he had to start with, or just persevere to get him used to the new stuff?

Good luck with the childminder Fitzio - I think we're about to embark down that route too...
Although Amelie's at a nursery which we were considering sending Freddie to when I go back, I'm really not overly happy with them. The one she was at previously was much better but it's not an option as it's closed down. When she originally left there I struggled to find her another place I liked, so I think it's time I reconsidered going with a childminder, especially in light of all the positive comments on here - I hadn't realised that they were so tightly regulated.
