mfd there is a set of wooden bricks from Argos that are about £7 they were the cheapest I could find for mm when it was Dylan's birthday :)
    I'll get a link

OOS online but might have them in a local store http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9239281/Trail/searchtext%3EWOODEN+BLOCKS.htm

I can recommend the traditional toys in Home Bargains too they have a traditional metal spinning top that Edgar loves which was around £5 similar to this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000WCDR1U/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_3?pf_rd_p=103612307&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000KFU2XK&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1QNS0D5Z26Y3TWKFAEV7

  • Any ideas for fabby first birthday gifts for my Great-Neice?

I am going to give her some books (because apparently she hasn't got any ) but wanted something cool to go with it...

Looking for something for less than £20.

No books  There is someone on ebay who does name puzzles - I think they work out as £1 a letter.

Anyway I actually just popped on to warn you lot that I received a very convincing looking phishing email today, it was masquerading as a msg from facebook telling me Nigel Wallace had sent me a message on there. I had only just looked a FB so was suspicious and when I checked the link that appeared to go to FB was going elsewhere - be aware :)

That jigsaw looks great Jenny! I am storing the idea for Holly's birthday!

This is book related so not off topic (even though it turned into a rant):

My parents babysat on Saturday night when DH and I went for dinner. We left about as H was due her dinner which I had made before I left. I said to my mum that H was getting a bit independent and wanting to feed herself, but if she let her hold another spoon, it would make it easier to feed her. I demonstrated and fed H about 3 spoonfulls before handing over to her. She said "Oh, I can't feed you with that spoon in your mouth" and took it off her. When I got home, she said she couldn't have been hungry because she wouldn't eat. No, she was trying to grab the spoon and having a tantrum because she wouldn't let her help!

This incident followed on from me saying "Give her a bottle around 7.30pm, and bed whenever she seems tired. We usually read her a book before bed, but you don't have to if you don't want to".
My mum then started to laugh at me and mock me for reading her a story "at her age", saying there is no way she is doing that??? She will talk to her, but it is ridiculous to read stories as she won't understand. I was getting really angry and snapping back "there are f***ing books with touchy feely pictures in it designed for babies that she likes". It nearly ruined my night out as I was so angry!

This is why my mother is not looking after Holly on a regular basis, as she would never follow my wishes. I didn't even ask her to read the story as I knew how she would be about it. Holly has loads of books, and whether she understands or not, it's a nice opportunity to cuddle up with her before bed. Why would a grandparent not appreciate that?

Fitz, I wouldn't bother letting her babysit again, just visit when you're around, no point if you can't enjoy your time out! X

Was weird as I only bought up the apple I had just before bed, and it had a nasty awful burn to it, I'm sure there was something wrong with it as normally a bug starts with the kids. And I wasn't sick again but laid awake worrying in case I was! :o

Nothing would go right and I just couldnt function in the end, had a stinkin headache and was crying so much I couldnt see :( Thankfully after a good nights sleep I feel better today so was obviously just a blip. Had a bad night after waking at 1am with awful indegestion, eventualy ended up speaking on the great white telephone! was yuck but seemed to solve the problem. T had a great night tho with only 2 wake ups so hope we are back to norm after this last hot weather. that and it helps she has now decided she lilkes rolling on her tummy to sleep.

bad awful mummy confession and I feel so rotten but T rolled off the sofa this morning! :( Have never been so grateful to have a very thick rug. She had a little cry and am keeping a very close eye on her but she is her normal happy self. Am feeling really bad tho and yet more tears when i had to tell OH what happened. My back was turned literally a few seconds, am so never putting hr on the soffa again.
