Lost my pup to parvo :(

They have no proof whatsoever that the Pup was infected when they bought it from that shop and a newspaper would not print the story based on assumptions either.
Under the Sale of Goods Act 1979, the onus of proof is on the retailer to show that there was no problem. Only after 6 months following purchase does the burden of proof reverse.0 -
Any update OP?0

Not yet - the letter and vet report are with the pet shop, they have 10 days left to respond. We had to wait a little while for the vet's report, but it categorically states that she must have contracted Parvo before she came to us. Will keep you updated!

I haven't read all the replies, but I just wanted to say how sorry I am. I did almost exactly the same thing 3 years ago, even though I knew I shouldn't I bought a Jack Russell puppy (Toby) because he was the last in the litter. 5 days later he was admitted to hospital with parvo. He and I were very lucky because he survived although I was told to prepare for the worst . I still feel guilty about where I bought him from, but the only way I can justify it is that at least we were able to get him good care, even though it left us with a whopping credit card bill. I wouldn't want to be without him now, but would never visit such centres or give them my business again.
I really do feel for you.0 -
Hi all
Just to let you know that today we received a cheque from the pet shop for the cost of Evie and all our vet bills. It feels slightly bitter sweet, but I am pleased we have had some success.
Thanks again to Equaliser for your letter, it was perfect.
Thanks to all for your help.

Thanks for updating...
does that mean they are accepting liability, or did they put a get out clause in the letter? ('without prejudice' I believe is the term they use)
I do hope you sad story acts as a cautionary tale to anyone considering buying a puppy from a pet shop. If no one bought from them, they would have to stop trading in misery.0 -

Hey! Congrats on the outcome, I'm pleased you can now let it all rest and move on. *Hugs*. I even found a weird MSE threesome hug! :grouphug:If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -

They apologised for the loss of Evie & stated that she showed no signs of illness whilst in their care. They said that would not have sold her to us should she have been ill and apologised again.0 -
Glad you got an outcome and an apology

Have you thought about trying to get a story into the local rag, to warn others of the issues related to buying from these places?0
