OP it has been shown that released balloons have killed wildlife...if you're happy to take the risk go ahead?0

We let some balloons go for the kids in memory of Granddad last weekend (not wedding related!)
The kids loved it. They all drew their own little pictures or wrote letters for Granddad and I attached these with cotton. No ribbons went with the balloons but the kids all said goodbye to Granddad in their own way.
If you want to let go of some balloons, then go for it. It isn't banned.
I wonder if they'd love it quite so much watching an animal die having choked on their balloon, smoking isn't banned but we wouldn't encourage our children to start the minute they are 16 would we!0 -

If this is the case - and they are lying, wouldnt someone contact trading standards?
Im genuinely asking?
Did you know that it can take an oak leaf about 5 years to break down in the wild. As gardeners, we put leaves into bags to help speed them rotting down and even doing that it can take 2+ years. Leaves usually get used by other wildlife in their nests and habitats BECAUSE it takes them years to break down.
Lots of people lie when advertising their goods; have you ever seen condoms lying around that have evidently been there for months? They don't break down, they usually get eaten or taken away by wildlife long before they break down.
Honestly; don't believe all you read. Use a bit of common sense and look about you before just taking it all in and falling hook line and sinker for some spiel.
[They say that plastic 6 pack rings break down in 2 months. They say that, and could probably prove it in a laboratory by adding different simulant chemicals. However in the real world......]0 -
i think its a lovely idea, especially as i will be missing someone who really should have been a big part of the day....
i didnt think it was allowed anymore for the conservation reasons that have been mentioned here (mentioned in a pointlessly agressive manner i might add) so i was surprised when i went to 2 school events recently where they still do the balloon release game,
how about releasing butterfiles instead?
environmentally safe, a little different and very pretty0 -

You don't have to release butterflies; they are already free.
Unless you breed them and keep them in captivity before you release them of course.
Why not just mention the people that you are missing in the service or at the speeches and raise a toast to them? Or is that too 'unimaginative'?0 -
