I have so many opinions about some of the replies posted on this thread but I'll try and be good and not put what I think!

Fly, I think your reasons for doing it are really close to your heart and I can totally understand why. I also love the visual effect and think it would be a great way for everyone past and present to be involved in your wedding. That said, unfortunately yes there are some environmental implications. Ultimately it is your choice and if you go ahead with it just make sure you go use a reputable company for your own peace of mind.

On the other hand, what about lighting a different colour tea light for each missing person and letting them float in a lovely large bowl during your ceremony or similar?

Oh and by the way....when it's my turn to get wed I'd like to do a Dove release......don't panic they wont choke any ducks (unless they know karate I suppose) and they wont be specifically bred just for me to throw them into the air so I should be ok ;)

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D

  • I'm sure all your copy paste butterfly information is really worthy and I might get round to reading it... However the whole thing was just a suggestion for someone who expressed an Interest in releasing something... People were jumping all over the op for using something man made so I went a bit more natural and organic... If this offends you so deeply I apologise to you, all the puppies in mascara and any duck who bites off more than he can quack at

I honestly couldn't care less wether all of you or none of you release anything, it was something I've seen on tv and mentioned...
Not a researched idea that I'm shoving down anyones throat

Having said all this, I do like the photo frame / artificial candle idea, us that idea alright with the green party?

One question because i'm confused?? Are any of these posters ACTUALLY getting married???

Forgive me but i think a few of you have lost your way...the website your after is http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/about .

I appreciate all your wordly advice and my knowledge of the dangers of releasing balloons, or butterflies or anything else discussed has definately grown and you've given me lots to consider.....but sometimes ppl just want to relax after a tough day at work and enjoy a lighthearted banter with ppl who are looking forward to their wedding....and your kinda spoiling the vibe!!

So what you are saying is that only people getting married are allowed into the weddings and anniversaries board; which sits in the special occasions board, on an open internet forum?

Does this mean only people getting married in a certain time frame, or only people getting married with a date in mind, or does this extend to people actively planning a wedding? What if people are getting married, but don't feel the need to talk about every last little detail on an internet forum but who just get on with life in general and make decisions themselves without needing authorisation or back up from people they don't actually know? Do people have to declare their intentions on marriage before they are allowed to post? What about people who are just celebrating an anniversary; is there a quota on how many of these are allowed into the weddings and anniversaries board? What about wedding planners, are they allowed to comment? Or hairdressers, or florists..or other people who in their own way have a vested interest in the Weddings and Anniversaries Board on an Open Internet forum.

Nobody minds lighthearted banter; but when 'please don't do that because of...' is met with 'here we go again....' then people tend to bite back.

In case you are still confused; there at the top of the forum - in RED - is a note saying 'this is an open forum - anyone can post'. This means that anyone can post, not anyone that just the people that frequent a particular board think should be allowed to post, can post.

i'm really suprised at this outcome and the reaction.

i wonder if you went to a wedding and they had a baloon release would you just before hand go to the bride and groom and tell them it is utterly wrong you are killing the world blah blah blah blah no you wouldn't.

i didn't ask if its wrong or right i just asked how to do it safely. i'll be using these balloons during the day anyway and if i like a recent wedding i went to, i gave them to all the kids , at least 10 of these balloons would be floating of to the sky due to the butter fingers kids have like most children who get given hellum balloons

    thanks

Here you go to everyone crying about the animals.

Go and tell the family of Sarah Payne how disgusting you think this is.

We can't do anything about it after the event - and it would be churlish of us to lecture anyone, but if I knew her or any of the people involved then I wouldn't have hesitated before the event to suggest an alternative.

By the way, you're stooping very low if you have to bring a murdered child into the equation.
