    Hi and thanks.

Ive used google though and found that i can keep claiming my housing benefit, discretionary housing benefit, and council tax benefit whilst im away on holiday,
as long as the holiday only lasts for maximum 3months.

    http://www.eden.gov.uk/benefits-and-tax/benefits/housing-benefit/housing-benefit-temporary-absense/

    http://www.nihe.gov.uk/index/housingbenefit/housing_benefit_advice/older_people.htm

But for jobseekers im going to have to sign-off, and then make a rapid-reclaim the day i get back,
and just miss out of the £134 for those 2weeks. :(

Its a pretty stupid idiotic rule though, as ive been begging to be given a job for over 12months now yet haven't been,
so im hardly likely to suddenly be lucky enough to get 1 in the next 12days!
As I said in your other thread, about income from gambling, discretionary housing payments are NOT payments of Housing Benefit. They are discretionary, hence the name.

The procedure is the Job Centre will cancel your JSA while you are abroad, you can then reapply for JSA when you are back in the UK. The council will be notified of the changes to your JSA and you will have to prove you had no income for two weeks in order to get HB and CTB for those two particular weeks. To get the Discretionary Housing Payment for these two weeks you may have to fight a little harder and subsequently fight even harder still to get it reinstated afterwards.

If you want to find out the circcumstances about temporary absence from the UK have a look at chapter 7 of the DWP DMG at http://www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/dmgch0701.pdf

I wish you luck in understanding what it means. Rather than go on a holiday, why not consider jobseeking abroad. Free movement of labour is one of the principles of the EU. I tried to find the authority for JSA to continue if this occurred but have not yet found the relevant para in the DMG.

    Thanks. :)

I don't really want to pretend that im going to be applying for jobs based in Cyprus while im over there though,
as since i don't speak Greek itd be obvious that i was lying, and id also be required to prove that id applied for a few jobs over there.

So it's Cyprus now rather than Ibiza as in your op?

Bermuda triangle sounds a better option.

I think as April enjoys the odd flutter, maybe we should start the bets as to how long it will take before he is banned again.
