Are any other former A+L account holders having difficulty logging on to their Santander account?

Twice last month I was frozen out and had to wait a week both times for a new PIN to arrive because it wouldn't recognise my PIN, and now it's happened again this month.

    Incredibly frustrating!
  • Sorry to hear about your problems with your change-over.
I too had the mis-fortune to be changed to the Santander server in September 2010, together with my mother's account over which I have power of attorney.
Firstly, they removed my mother's savings account from her internet banking which I operate. This took a full month to restore.
I then noticed that when I log in to my accounts, it welcomed me as Mrs Payne (My mother).
About 8 weeks ago my name was removed from my wife and I's joint account and then we started receiving statements addressed to my mother and my wife.
I knew it would need sorting out but feared to contact them in case they made matters worse through their incompetence.
They of course did, as about a month ago they suspended access to my internet banking on my account, and would not deal with me as my name was not on the account..
Despite phone calls and complaints on a daily basis I was ignored.
I visited the branch and learned that they had put all my accounts in my mother's name and all my mother's accounts in my name.
I have got nowhere and not a thing has changed.
Their so called customer service is non-existant and have no way of getting anything done.
I have tried the Financial Ombudsman and they will not get involved until the current complaint has been running for 8 weeks.
I have contacted BBC watchdog today so will see if they can help but if anyone has any ideas of who else to contact please I would be very grateful.
Bryan Payne (Girobank, Alliance & Leicester and Santander account holder for 41 years).

Read this: Santander - Major C***-up - Poor service.

It seems that we are having similar problems.

I haven't been able to log in since last May...That's 8 months...EIGHT months. My case is now with the FOS....And they are in favour of my complaint. Just waiting for Santander to come back with a "settlement" figure....which will probably take another 8 month.
(PS! I'm with First Direct now)

I've got two complaints with Santander at the moment - one about my former A&L current account and another about my A&L mortgage. My current account was closed in January 2009 but reopened when they migrated the accounts to Santander last summer. I now have two entries on my credit file for the same account - one in the name of Santander and the other in the name of A&L. They reopened account cannot be closed unless I show either a statement or bank card. I don't have either of these as my account was closed and the new account is marked as dormant so they won't send statements or replacement cards. I wrote to complain but got a response from someone who completely misunderstood my complaint. The customer service at Santander is truly awful.
  • Anybody having problems connecting to Alliance and Leicester online banking? I logged in a couple of days ago but now cannot establish a connection to the login page. Seems to be a technical issue.
  • You mean through the Alliance and Leicester URL?

I havent had any problems getting on the website, i logged in to check my bank yesterday evening and this morning.

Just out of interest how many people are still using the A+L URL for online banking? I do hope they keep it for some time yet as i really dont want the hassle of having to get the details to logging through Santander.

As far as I am aware both will be merged at some point.

I am registered on both A&L and Santander online banking.

I prefer A&L as the layout is easier, and on the Santander site they use "OTP" which means a code is sent to your mobile for certain transactions, more secure but a bit of a pain.

However Santander online banking isn't too bad IMO. It's worth registering just to be on the safe side.

    Hello Stevied19
I've been logging on to my A&L url OK every day since you logged your question. Long may it last. I've had a lot of problems on the account in the last six weeks. I would advise anyone still holding on to their online account to check it every day and print off daily the most recent page of your statements and pending payments if you have a lot of churn. Also your STO page. This has been invaluable to me in proving what I said did happen. Keep written records of all calls and messages. Shouldn't have to - never did before. I'm still hoping my pre-takeover confidence will one day return.

Last time I could login to A&L (Now Crapander) was in June 2010....that's 8 months ago.

They claim nothing is wrong...but I still can't log in. Won the case with the FOS but I refused to accept their meager compensation so we're still in dispute. They even told the FOS that nothing was wrong with my account....so I sent them a number of screenshots. :)
  • OMG Yes this happened to me last week and I am still waiting for the new pin. I had 3 months of being locked out of my account last year and I cannot believe that this could be happening across the board. They told me they thought someone else must have tried to access my account number, put in the wrong pin and therefore locked me out! I just wish I had time to make the effort to change my account.
