I've been a happy RBS customer for many years.:DThe other day I got a letter announcing that their branch operation is to be sold to..... Santander.I feel another storm of grief on the horizon...

    Quick! Do it! http://www.natwest.com/personal/current-accounts/g2/switching-to-us.ashx
  • Hi there, sorry if this has already been asked/answered somewhere.

Does anyone know how long I have to stay banking with Santander after signing up (with A&L) and getting the £100 incentive?

    Cheers

Had exactly the same letter, I will be moving to another bank, long before the change takes place. RBS have been great over the years, however in any migration there are always computer glitches.

These may be just 'glitches' to the banks concerned, but to their customers they can have untold ramifications - non payment of bills and all the associated nausea that goes with such.

Lloyds or Barclays, this is the question.

I live in Northern Ireland, and I have a Santander Current acount, its not my main account I hardly ever use it, for the reasons afore mentioned. I started to use it again recently and found that they randomly charge me International Atm fee's for using Link cash machines here in Northern Ireland. I called them up and was told "Ireland is International" of course you have to pay fees. I was too annoyed to argue with the incompetent twit. I'll not be using it again. Its pathetic the size of the organisation and they still don't even have proper faster payments.

I've not had time to read this whole thread, so forgive me if this has been asked before.

Has anyone successfully opened a Santander account after applying online? I applied for an ISA back in March, and after hearing nothing for three weeks, I had to go into the branch and ask why my application hadn't been processed, and apparently there was no record of my application on the system. Needless to say I was rather disappointed, as I'd have gone into the branch in the first place had I known that applying online would have been a waste of time.

I decided to apply for a savings account this week, and again, I did so online. It's only been two days, but I'd like to know if anyone else has had trouble opening any kind of account when they've applied online. If I can avoid waiting for another three weeks before finding out that I have to ring them up or visit them in-branch, I'd rather do that, and just ring them up now.

I was an A&L customer for 5 years before my accounts were migrated to Santander, and I, luckily (after reading the posts on here!!), havent had any problems with my current or savings account, but I also have a credit card with Santander, and since the migration, have not been able to access it on-line. I called and was told it would be passed to their IT team as it seems my log in details has been erased from their system??!! Any one else had problems with accessing their credit card account? And did you get it sorted? Ive always been quite happy with A&Ls customer service, and I havent had much dealings with Santander, so reading all these posts is kinda scary!
Debt free and staying that way!

Oh, and if you do decide to transfer to them, note that their 'Transfer Team' are only available during working hours and not at weekends so if you have a problem on a Friday customer services will do NOTHING to help... if you do get through to the 'Transfer Team', they may well just hang up on you after you have waited half an hour to speak to someone.

    You have been warned!!!

    Daragh

Agreed. I was told that they would "transfer everything" from my old HSBC account to my Santander account, but nothing happened at all. As it happens I'm quite pleased about that as it means I've got two active current accounts that I enjoy various advantages with due to paying in more than the minimum £1000 a month. But that's not the point - the point is all of my outgoings and incomings should have been transferred.

I also forgot to mention that my ISA was never linked to my debit card like I was told it would be, and I haven't been able to access it online, again, like I was told I would be.
  • I have sent a faster payment from my Alliance and Leicester account and it has still to arrive in the Nationwide account. It was for £250. This has been since the soc alled upgrade.

anything over £200 doesnt go faster payments anymore. i transferred 210 once, took 4 days cos it was over 200...! gggrr

  • I can't log-in to my credit card account now. Worked fine until I was switched to Santander a few weeks ago. Also tried to make a payment to my Egg card on the online Egg account which I've done every month for the last 8 months and that doesnt work too.
  • I have several standing order payments paid into my A&L account they have always had a name as a reference. Now since the change over they all come up with faster payment and no names have not a clue who they are from. On phoning the call center several times i am told that it is the "other bank we have no control over references" I have contacted to some of the payers but no one has changed anything and they are different banks!!!!!!

It has to be the new santander system but they can not tell me when if ever it will be sorter so much for "we will transfer over and you will not notice anything"

I am voting with my feet !!!!!
