You go in and have a chat about your dietary habits then you lie on the table on your side with your knees tucked to one side. They put loads of lubrication on the end of the hosepipe (the disposable bit) then they insert it (its not sore either). They then put the water on (its warm water) and you stay in that position for a bit then they ask you to turn onto your bottom with your knees up. The place I went to massage your stomach while the water is going in to help loosen the old feacal matter. They ask you to let them know when you feel "full" then they put the water off. Sometimes you feel like you are going to have a really big poo which is a bit of a strange feeeling but after the intial embarrassment is over with its fine. The tube they use is see through so they can see what your poo looks like when its coming out. They can normally tell from that whether there is anything that you are eating that might not be agreeing with you or making you feel tired etc. At the end of the session they leave the room and there is a toilet in the same room (or just next door). You go and sit on it with your legs raised up on a stool (this helps get rid of more poo) and wait until you think that its all "out". If you put your arms above your head whilst you are doing this to straighten your body up you get rid of more of it. And thats pretty much about it. Not the most elegant of things to have done but definately works!! (if you need any more info you can PM me if you want to. :))

Not offended in the slightest, that's the kind of response I was looking for!!

It all sounds quite straightforward...now, I need to find a clinic close to me!

this is such an interesting thread :)

Can I ask two things - how much did it cost (I know it will be different in different places, just getting a guideline) and did you actually fit into your clothes better afterwards as opposed to just weighing less?

    **oops cross posted Kat** :)

I found it for £95 at a clinic in London so everywhere else might be a bit cheaper :D

this is all rather intresting, however i assume the overall effect is similar to taking laxatives and drinking lots of water, i never assumed it would bes so expensive and that there would be um after effects :P

Im in the centre of Edinburgh and when I was getting it done it was around £45 a session. Think its probably gone up a bit since then but maybe around £50 - £60 depending where you are (it depends how many places do it in your area, the less places the more likely it is that it will be more costly)

Edit: Just checked their website and its £65 for an hour (first session with consultation last an hour and a half and is also £65)

Here is the link to where I used to go telling you all the benefits of it:

I always felt like my tummy was quite big (not saggy just bloated if that makes sense) and after I started getting it done it wasnt anymore.

Writing about it has actually made me remember how much better and less sluggish I felt after getting it done so am going to book again. Thanks Angelic! :)

Colonics can remove faeces that has been compressed on your colon for up to 10 years. Im not sure if water and laxatives would do that or not.

I pay £75 in Clapham Common in London (been going there for 5 years) and £65 in Holborn. I prefer lady practitioners but the person in Holborn was male (just my own silly problem, he was lovely and very professional).
The practitioners normally recommend taking probiotics after the treatment and I bought a bottle for £17 once but barely took them so wouldn't say they were essential.
I'm a big fan of colonics!

I recommend them highly. I feel great afterwards - clean on the inside and in high spirits

It depends on how you feel about having things inserted into your bottom. Some are a bit squeamish about that. My therapist is an A&E nurse who does this in her spare time and is fully qualified.

Here's my procedure: upon arrival you undress and put on a surgical gown made of paper and a pair of paper knickers. You lie on a doctor's couch and the therapist cuts a hole in the pants and coats a speculum (similar to the one they use when you have a smear test) in KY jelly. She inserts the speculum and widens the anus then inserts a plastic tube in there, removes the speculum and begins to fill you with warm water. My therapist uses a modern high pressure device which regulates the temperature of the water and allows you to view the poo as it comes out through a window in the machine. She rubs your colon and stomach as you start to fill with water and asks you to tell her when you feel really full. She then throws a switch on the machine and all the contents comes out. After a few goes of this, she flushes your colon with cool water, removes the tube and lets you go to the toilet, where you basically 'wee' out of your bum for a while.

My therapist recommends probiotics to regulate the amount of good bacteria in the gut.

Try and find a practice that uses Lebbe (sp?) beds - absolutely brilliant, and none of the after effects some of you have had!

NB - I had a lovely long post with pictures & all & it vanished when I tried to post - can't type it all out again! LOL!
