NSD No. 3, not a very good start for me. Have had 3 spend days already this month and they have been HIGH . Had birthday presents to buy and I was overly generous (a bad trait of mine - I love to give loads and loads of presents!) Not very MSE I know. I'll have to try better next time. Plus I sprained my ankle whilst playing squash (went for a shot that I should have left - and to think I didn't even win the point either!) so had to buy stronger painkillers, strapping and some smelly ointment to rub it. Oh well, I am aiming to pick myself up, dust myself down and get back on the NSD road.Save £12k in 2017 #14
How much will you spend in 2017 #40 -

Morning all, got NSD number 7 yesterday Spoon and today will be number 8 but will declare for definite later, can't see any reason why I'll need to go anywhere near a shop today though, I'm stuck inside with lots of computer work to do, still stops me spending.
I've observed that since I joined the NSD challenge last month my frequent Ama*on spends have stopped!!! Before, when I had a coffee break I would browse their website and buy a herb book or two, which came out of my 'spends' budget. Just little things that cost 1p plus postage nothing huge, but loads of them every month. Now when I have a break I read the posts on here, have hardly looked at Ama*on recently, when I checked my 'spends account online yesterday I have £75 in it! All of this months allowance and half of last months, usually by this time in the month I've spent all of the previous months money and about half of the current months, so I'm chuffed with that and spends last month were a skirt and a couple of tops for my hols.
I admire how lots of you include everything such as bills, petrol etc, I only include my grocery budget as that's all I'm responsible for, DH pays everything else. I was pants managing that though to be honest but it's getting LOADS better now since I joined the NSDC :T My GC went a bit wobbly this month as I only have about £16 left to last until Friday next week, that's down to the stockpiling stuff that was on offer at the beginning of the month that we'll need when we come back off holiday. I should only need fruit and salad when we go shopping on Sunday so fingers crossed I'll make it, but I really am becoming more careful about what I spend, how much, what I spend it on and when I spend it all thanks to you lot
PDD I'm impressed with your cost cutting hair dressing skills, I last had my hair cut in May last year it cost me £30 then for a wash, cut & blow dry, I don't have it cut very often because of how expensive it is to have done, do the hairdressers not understand in the current economy we need cheapy haircuts, 2 for 1 would be good lol! I NEVER get what I ask for, even if I take a picture in and say I want it like that, it always looks different. I used to have a mobile hairdresser where I used to live and she charged £5 for a cut n blow (okay that was 10 years ago now) but there don't seem to be any in my area. May try your approach next time, and tell them exactly what I will and won't pay for and see how it goes.
Well done KarenCSS, it's a super feeling when you see something you've written in print, happened to me a couple of years ago when I got commissioned to write for a supplement and they paid me with a nice fat cheque, sadly nothing since, but I guess I could try doing that again, hadn't thought that I could maybe make some money that way until now, so thanks for posting
Enjoy your well earned earnings, we'll all be off looking for the mag now to see if we can see your recipesDid they tell you which month it would appear in? Well done to everyone clocking up NSD's it really is a great feeling to be in control of your purse strings isn't it? Instead of being a supermarket puppet.

Hi boultdj not sure if this tactic will help but I leave my DH looking at the magazines whilst I go round to do the shopping when I go to Mr A, T or S he gets to have an MSE read of his fav mags and I get my shopping done with no added extras, not sure if you could do that with your DH?
It doesn't work in Al*i as no magazine aisle, so I've also invented the 'off list' rule, which is the girlie version of the off side rule. Basically if it's not off the list and isn't a bargain staple e.g. special on soap powder. Whoever adds the [STRIKE]treat[/STRIKE] naughty item to the basket/trolley has to pay for it out of their own money. As DH is saving for buying stuff he wants, it's stopped him throwing stuff wolly nolly into the trolley and expecting my shopping budget to pay for it. Seems to be working for me so far, may be worth adopting your own version of it?
