I haven't been well, sorry for the absence. It is nothing serious but enough to annoy me, so I've been keeping a low profile.

OK so here's my money situation after month 1. I currently have £1,018.35 put away towards my 3.5 k target, so I am very happy about this.

I am away on holiday next week so I'm having a hard time trying to work out how much I can put away, I might just leave it til I get back. I have a direct debit of £100 going into the Isa automatically anyway so that'll be something at least.

I hope everyone else is getting on well, and hope you reach your target this month EC12345!

Hi Mary, how very strange, I was looking for you thread today and saw that you hadn't update for a while - then I just checked again and saw that you had updated. :j

Well done on your savings... £1,018 is brilliant. I have managed to save another £30 so my total is now £3,422. Still three weeks to go until pay day but by the end of the month (can you believe it is August by the way), I will have made my £3,500!!

May be just save your £100 as planned - £100 is a lot of money and better than nothing. Keep us informed. Where are you off to - hope you have a great time wherever it is ... :j

:hello: Not much to report. I have been on holiday for the week.
However, I do have my savings target of £200 for the month and have currently saved £55. Quarter of the way there with 4 weeks to go :). I do think I will need to oversave in the next few months as they are already displaying wrapping paper in the supermarket :xmassmile

Just read the article about Nationwide starting to charge for using their cards overseas. This was originally the only reason I went with Nationwide, and now I have quite a number of accounts with them because I was happy with the service but now I am quite annoyed.

Will need to look for alternatives for overseas use by next summer then. Grrrr.

I have had breakfast so I am bit more awake now lol I'll post a brief outline of my objectives this week before I go away and I'll see how well I was able to stick with it at the end of month 2 :)

Thanks for your posts guys, it's good to know you're not alone in this! :)

  • EC you are amazing! As you have hit your target, Iam not only jealous but also you have inspired me!

So I said at the start that my goal was 6500 by the end of the year, well Im upping it. Thats right, as I sit here with 12 days to go until Monthly pay day, Im increasing it to 9000. With a Bali holiday pushed in there also.

Its tax time over here in Australia, and it seems I got about 1800 back on my tax which is going towards savings and also spending $$$ on my holiday. Thank god.

So currently iam 2522/9000. Aiming with my tax back and pay day on the 15th of Aug that I will be hitting the half way mark of saving, and with 4 months to go! yeoooow.

Iam down to $5 to my name, struggling to buy petrol, although if i can push through these last two weeks, I truly think I may have overcome a hurdle, Im going to work better on sticking to budgets and targets, not over spending and avoid shops. I have paid off my credit card which is a HUGE bonus, and the move to have a different bank and account for savings is my best decision, as I would have transferred more money whilst drinking on the weekend.

Reading all of your stories and hearing about your everday struggles, amazing, your helping me through, even though you are halfway around the world. hehe.

Wish me luck through this week and next and I will report back about hitting my halfway mark of my savings targets?

fairtrade, how are you going? small baby steps will always help you! oversaving, iam sooo jealous. where do you get your drive from? iam a naughty girl and would think yes, an extra $50 and I can buy this this and this. hehe

Until next catch up.... So very proud and greatful to everyone in this forum

Hi shopgirl6035, hope you get through this week OK but by the sound of it you're well on track to reach your target! :T

I am away on my holiday soon and after everything (travel insurance, all my bills, etc) I still have £355.00 left in the bank. All being well I will not need to use this money at all while I am away, which means I should be able to put away a very respectable amount at the end of the month.

Things are looking good and I'm looking forward to going away :) so hope everyone here has a great time, and best of luck with your challenges

  • Hello Ladies!

Congrats on reaching your targets or doing very well saving!

Week of outward bounds was fantastic, sad to be back at work :(

I am pleased as punch to have now maxed my ISA for the year and also opened a 4% regular saver with Saffron building society, depositing a lovely £200 per month. Heard on martin lewis grapevine that RBS, Natwest and Halifax to publish 5% regular saver accounts too so watching and waiting this!

Well in terms of money left to spend, left with pennies. Hopefully this will last until 14th of month. To be honest, not got much planned for next two weeks.

Received some Tesco vouchers, so put a like amount into the savings pot =68/200.

I did have another fifty pounds, which I was going to put into the savings.
However, with the recent events in Pakistan, I have donated to the disasters and emergency committee instead.
I have firsthand experience of homelessness, but I was lucky, as it was in a Country where I could rely on the drinking water and the State did provide assistance.
In the scheme of things, it may not be much, but it will feed two families for two months.
I really can't bear to see the coverage as the memories are too painful, and if I had been born in another land - that could be me

HI everyone - sorry haven't posted for a while but great to catch up with everyone's saving.

Firstly Fairtrade well done for this - this is such a lovely thing to do - good for you. £50 is a lot of money - what a great thing to do.

Well this month I will hit my £3,500 target - pay day is the end of the month so will be writing a cheque for the final £80 to reach the £3,500. What I am then going to do is then to is put this money away in another bank account and keep it for a real emergency. I am then going to start another savings target to reach by the end of the year - it might only be small, say, £500 - but £500 is £500 and is a lot of money to me and is probably doing in the short amount of time between September and December.

Keep saving everyone and update when you can x

Firstly, thanks to EC12345 and JamesU, I know the rest of you are on holiday!
( Do you think we could get JamesU to be a regular poster? - I have offered to send JamesU my recipes! )
Other opinions are always welcomed and encouraged.

Very little to report this week - the savings are now 134/200 so nearly there, but, I know I have to do better as Christmas will soon be here - have already bought my first roll of wrapping paper! :santa2:
I'm sorry, still August and I'm looking that far ahead. I know the Ultilitiy bills are coming in September, so have to spend 'available' money.
For myself I am an optimist - there does not seem to be much use being anything else.
