Buy a flask and take in your favourite beverage. My workplace has a good drinks machine but it doen't make my drink the way I like.
It you want a snack buy from the supermarket and take into work. Crisps are 40p a pack in work, I bought 12 bags from the supermarket for 1-60 a big difference in price.

Yea but your not supposed to eat all 12 bags in one day!

at college i always took a flask, since i could not justify £2 for a crappy cappuccino, i took my own fruit teabags, but they charged ma 50p for hot water !!!, so started taking own flask, bottles half filled with squash so i could fill them up with water....might not seem as sophisticated as the other students sipping their lattes, but saved me around £10 a week

    anyway

looking to put away at least 400 by mid aug so i can make up my savings to a nice round number that i can fall back on, am 18 and at home so i dont have many outgoings like high rent charges, bills etc

then fear ill blow it all on slr cameras and shoes :)

    Morning all,

Bad news first - I didn't get the job :(
but they have invited me in for feedback and suggested I re-apply in a couple of months time, so that does sound encouraging :)

Trevor - I never suggested eating all the crisps at once and I have since become a bit healthier by buying honey and nut bars, lots less salt!
For myself I am an optimist - there does not seem to be much use being anything else.

Hope the spa goes well EC, & bad news about the interview Fairtrade but it's definitely good they're asking you back for feedback.

I have £125.00 left in the bank at the moment. I am due an extra £100 from the cheque, making it £225.00, however I have a one-off bill coming out at the end of the month which I'd forgotten about for just under £40.00, which leaves me with £185.00.

Out of that I've decided I'll be getting some swimwear for the beach, plus I lost my foundation and blusher  so will need to get that but I'll use my boots points as I think I have loads left (unless I can find them between now and the weekend!)

I'll know mid-next week how much I'll get paid at the end of the month so that'll give me an idea as to how much of the remainder I can put away, hopefully lots :)

So, will need to see how that goes. At the end of the month I'll see how much exactly is in the Isa (with the Virtual Challenge Pot money as well), and then decide what to do next.

  • Hello everyone!! Having a poop week, its this particular week every year at work, very busy and stressful. Put it this way 3 down 2 to go!!

Fairtrade sorry to hear about the job. Its good that they are providing you with feedback. There was some scary statistic that for every job going in london there are 30 applicants! Ouch!! I still cannot decided if am going to go for a new job. We are in the process of being "bought" by new company so who knows what will happen! Sale should go through in Sept, so will worry about it then. I like and dislike bits of the job, but do really like the people, its close to home etc so not an easy choice.

Mary, I am a little lucky that hubby pays for the food shopping. He earns more than I do so thats where he helps me out. I pay rest of our bills 50/50 though.

Well after spending splurge on weekend not spent anymore money. In week its not much of a problem, weekends are defo my downfall. To be sociable we are meeting up with some friends on weekend and tomorrow night, both though will be picnics in park. Defo cheeper options than meeting in pubs.

Plz also keep your fingers crossed for me, item on ebay has 3 days left. Hopefully will get more than the reserve price and will bump up the savings pot. No word from the bar job I applied for last week.

  • Hello, well worth a quick update.

Done very well this week and actually managed not to spend a penny! When actually looked at budget I had less than originally thought so its going to be a tough one! Down to £23. With hubby we are meeting up with friends today, instead of spending money on tube we have decided to take our bikes for a cycle. A cheeky way to save a few quid and get some exercise.

Also got ebay item ending, currently sitting with 2 bids below the reserve and 18 watchers!! Fingers crossed for more than reserve! Also looking to open the saffron building regular saver paying £4% gross tax.

Next week not on here because on a work trip. This could be painful but we will see.

Everyone enjoy rest of your weekends and looking forward to updates.

    Hello eveyone.

Got my feedback from the interview - they were impressed with my application:) but had a candidate who had experience of the job on offer. From what they were saying I should re-apply when they next advertise and I may well get a job offer:j

On the downside:( only a few pounds left until payday, but that is on Tuesday, so nothing to worry about.

I have decided I need to set myself a savings goal, as you are all doing so well

So over the next year I aim to save 200 pounds a month.
Will keep you posted on my progress.

  • Its currently the 29th of the month and I have until the 15th of August to last, silly monthly pay. And Iam in struggle town, with putting additional savings away, it has really hit hard.

For the year so far... Iam currently at 2500 out of my aim of 9,000.
I increased my aim, as I can possibly aim for this, with tax and what-not coming in. Im going to give it a go, aim high!!! hehe

So I have about 2 weeks to get through with only 5-10$ to my name.
If anyone has tips or hints. Please help.

Hello everyone. Good to catch up with everyone and their savings. I managed to save quite a bit this month (plus a bonus from work) so I am nearly at my target already of £3,500 - so am very pleased. Should hit the £3,500 by the end of August.

Hey Shopgirl, like you I am also struggling a bit. Because I saved a massive chunk this month, I really have no extra cash left for fun things. After my petrol and food shopping, there isn't month left really but am really pleased that I am so near my target.

Hey fairtrade - how is your saving going???
