If you want to lose £500 contact the Energy Saving Group. I signed up to and paid ESG £500 to have solar pv panels installed on my roof on the 4th October 2010. To date I am £500 poorer as I don`t have any solar pv panels and ESG has retained my money.

I have asked for a refund and I am going to try and pusue this one through the courts.

My feelings are that they will accept CCJ`s against them and try and start a company under another name.

Cowboys trying to pass themselves off as professionals who are nowhere near pulling it off.

I will advise if I get a response to my summons but if you read this and I can save you £500, job done.

There are now companies out there who charge nothing to install the panels.

IMac - we haven't got our either. I'm all for chasing them up but hubby is a rather more patient soul!;)

Are you posting this on behalf of or as a representative of ESG? If so you need to be registered on the forum as such.

They also had our £500 about 8 months ago and also no sign of getting the work done yet. We have been ringing ESG for at least 20 times. They promise to ring back but never do. They also said I can't get my refund because I am not eligible!! We ring again today. They asked me to ring my installer, My Energy Station, to get my order paperwork back (I presumed it was the surveyor's report) and they will pass the paperwork to my new installer (Who? Don't know). as now i know that they are repeatly saying the same thing. It sounds lying! My Energy Station said the surveyor didn't provide the roof dimensions. It is just unbelievable because first surveyor did the survey in March 2011 and a second surveyor from My Energy Station did second survey in July 2011. How could the surveyor not pick up the CRITICAL ROOF DIMENSIONS? They are really useless or they are lying?? They also said they haven't got the surveyor report or our signed paperwork. I then ring ESG. They said they are trying to look at our house on Google Earth and find out the dimensions. It is just getting very annoying!!! If using Google Earth can get the information, it was no need of your surveyor!!!

It appears that they have used all our £500 (i.e. paying the surveyor and their Admin or running the company). Now they are running out of money to get someone else to do the survey! Those surveyors or admin are just useless otherwise how could they missed the critical roof dimensions which is used to determine how many panels they can install and also affecting the energy generating ability. Ultimately it affects the income for their company.

Hevskitronic was saying people are getting refund. I doubt it. We now know this issue is localised as you company is now on BBC watchdog.
If you do refund to most of your customers, your company (ESG) will collapse. As we know that your company are relying on people's £500 to keep the company alive. I am very sure the customers will not get their refund back and they may go down to rout of liquidation the company. Hence, No one will get their money back. A scam!!!!!

Anyone know if UK have 'miss selling' Law?
  • Has anyone had any success in taking this company to the small claims court?
  • Yes, I served a summons on them for the £500 plus £50 costs.
They have totally ignored it. I am just having a CCJ served against them. I have just checked on register and it is showing 10 already against them. Now I have to decide whether to send bailifs in.
If anyone else has got this far, let me know.

We were telephoned by them a few days ago to say they would ring us in 2 weeks time with a date to install the panels.

Further update in case anybody else is wondering .........

we now have the scaffolding up and solar panels will be fitted in next few days. :j:j
  • I used the government Money Claim Online service to recover my deposit and scaffolding costs as a small claim. I got it all, court costs and interest included. The site is very easy to use. Make sure it is the .gov site you log into as there are one or two 'look alike's'. I had to go as far as sending the bailiffs in but it was all done from my PC. The site has a very good help desk but read and re-read all the ample information documents that can be accessed during the claim process. It's a great feeling when you succeed - Good Luck
  • Just to let everyone know, I was promised my refund by 09/12/2011 latest. I emailed them today and the instant response I got was:
Unfortunately due to the recent Government announcement it is with great regret that Energy Saving Improvements Limited (trading as Energy Saving Group) has ceased to trade as from Friday 9th December 2011.

We are currently taking financial/legal advice and will update all parties concerned in the near future.
  • I have been trying to contact the Energy Saving Group company for the last few days and keep getting permanently engaged tone. Has anyone else had this problem ?. Just read that they may have gone into Liquidation, does this mean that all of us who are awaiting our £500 refunds will not get our money back, if so does anyone know of any method of compensation from any other source.
