A friend of mine is having EON to assess their roof for panels and I believe their deal is £50.

Its £99 according to their web site, but I had a neighbour ask about it. The £99 is correct but they wanted £450 to put the system in? on top of the £99 and his roof is 179 dg south!!
  • Be very cautious if dealing with this company. It is now 8 months since they have held my deposit of £500 plus further amount for extra scaffolding, totaling £850 and apparently they still need to have a meeting to decide whether I qualify for a refund! I'm hoping my solicitor can help them speed their decision.
  • hi ive been waiting since Nov 2010 for my panels to be fitted with one excuse after another. today i was told that they've been refused due to the way they are facing im waiting foe a call to explain reasons why? after being told 5 weeks ago by surveyor there would be no problems at all ?
maybe they have realised they can make more money else where? this whole thing has been a nightmare and im sure its just a scam ? they promise to phone you back and never do pass you from one department to another ! its all stalling tactics probably needed money to start the companies up? so frustrating whole things a joke !
  • Do not deal with this company.
I paid them £500 in April for PV Solar panels.
After many months and many phone calls I was eventually told our house was unsuitable.
We are still waiting for our refund.
Trading standards are investigating them but it looks like I will have to take them to court if I want to see my money.
So much for a greener planet.
They just take your hard earned green backs.
  • Friend of mine after many months has received her lease paperwork which she doesn't understand but they do recomend taking it to your own solicitor. She didn't realise that the £500 'deposit' was for their legal work because this was never mention by the salesman. She doesn't want to pay any further legal fees (house is not registered with Land Registry so they are requesting sight of deeds or certified copies - more expense) She thought she was just doing her bit towards a green envirament and possibly getting a bit of free leccy as well. Now its costing too much for her and she just wants to cancel and have her money back.
  • Further to previous. Has anyone received lease paperwork and proceeded. Did you have it vetted by your own solocitor and how much did that cost. This appears to be ths sticking point with my friend as the lease is complicated and questionable and solicitor envolvement will just add extra cost.
  • Re lease, I'n not allowed to post link but bellbuxton has published a usefull document with advise re the lease.

Keen to go green? Read our report on solar PV...
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2011/09/solar_energy_panels.html

And my own take on rent a roof / leasing whatever - obviously prices have come down since then.

    http://solarkent.wordpress.com/2010/10/12/free-solar-panels/

Really when considering the rent a roof, look at it as more "I am leasing my roof to a stranger for about £40 - £50 a year with a fixed 25 year contract". If I sell my house, the new owner will be tied to that contract, most likely they won't buy it, I certainly wouldn't buy a house where the roof was effectively owned by somebody else!

As to paying somebody £500 to rent your roof!!! Absolutely insane! Would you pay somebody to rent your garden?

Two more points: Energy Saving Group are stating they are doing 400 install per week, ie over 1,600 per month or approaching half of all solar installs in the UK (3,500 per month). Unlikely to be true.

And Watchdog stated £11,500 for a typical installation. You should be able to easily find an installer who will fit a 2kW system for less than £10,000, possibly less than £9,000.
  • If you want to lose £500 contact the Energy Saving Group. I signed up to and paid ESG £500 to have solar pv panels installed on my roof on the 4th October 2010. To date I am £500 poorer as I don`t have any solar pv panels and ESG has retained my money.

I have asked for a refund and I am going to try and pusue this one through the courts.

My feelings are that they will accept CCJ`s against them and try and start a company under another name.

Cowboys trying to pass themselves off as professionals who are nowhere near pulling it off.

I will advise if I get a response to my summons but if you read this and I can save you £500, job done.

There are now companies out there who charge nothing to install the panels.
