you should try kohlrabi if you get the chance, it's very similar in taste & texture0 -
I have just noticed some broccoli in the fridge that is turning yellow as I hadn't got around to using it. Will this still be ok to use, maybe for soups or do you think its past it's best TIA. Tulip.0

it's just got a few yellow flowers on, so I'll make soup with the heads & eat the stalks myself0 -
Thanks Swan, my husband made soup for lunch with the broccoli and a bit of left over blue cheese and I must say it was delicious. Could so easily have just thrown it in the bin thinking it was past its best.0

I haven't made mine yet, I'm going to do the same as you as I have some stilton in the fridge for a recipe I saw on another thread & there'll be enough left for the soup0 -
As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0

I like broccoli, there I have said it, but what I don't like is the stalk.
At the supermarket, the stalk can be 1/3 of the size of the plant. i've tried making soup with but my OH doesn't like. So to save money how can I reduce buying the stalk and getting more floret for the money.0 -

buy frozen or pick the florets before putting them in the plastic bag?
I use to snap the stalks of asparagus, but now there's no point as supermarkets sell them in packs or bunches so it's same price whether you snap them or not.0
