I do normally cook them altogether, but my housemate was set of throwing them out, so i rescued them! :)

I eat them raw in a salad, use them for soup or slice thinly for a stirfry.

If I'm roasting veggies I'll bung it in too.
Getting there... A deal at a time. :T

I advise caution in eating raw brassica - ie. broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts etc - as raw brassica blocks iodine uptake by the thyroid gland. Cooking destroys this property however.

That said, if you only eat it sparingly, it's not much of a worry. :)

   I eat the small HG sprouts straight from the plant :o And lots of HM coleslaw. Maybe I'll get me soem seaweed to boost my iodine ;)

LOL!!!!! Yep, powdered kelp is cheap, and a pack lasts for ages. A pinch of it daily provides plenty of iodine in a form that's easily absorbable and not toxic even if you take more than required, as it is bound with other important factors.

Taking it at a different meal from the one you have raw brassica, will do the trick. :)

I used to hate buying broccoli with big stalks as I used to throw them away, so I used to often buy just the florets and waste money that way instead.

Now I am not so worried, I have just made soup from the stalks like I have done since joining this forum.

When we lived in England we were the people who broke the stalks off in Tesco, just leaving the broccoli head to weigh and pay. Now we're in Spain broccoli seems always to come in shrink wrap for some reason with quite long stalks, so have had to find ways of using stalks ie soup, in with stews, with sauce for pasta etc

A friend of mine always seemed to throw away the stalks of almost anything .When I asked her why she said she always thought that creepy crawlies lived in the stalk part:rolleyes: She even chucked out the stalks of Mushrooms I always use the stalk part of mushys in omelettes or stews I never throw anything out if I can possibly help it It's just wasteful.Or as my old Mum used to say "if you throw food out your feeding the devil", canny old gal my Mum
