I'm hoping he will be able to sort it tomorrow...will come back on and keep you updated...thanks for all the advice today x0

Is the access to it any better left and right of it?
I am not suggesting you try this if you aren't used to doing the likes, but there is usually some play in the pipes and there looks enough room to the right of the joint to be able to get a small cutter in and then do the same on the other two pipes and replace the whole section with plastic push fit (obviously after isolating and draining).0 -
no access either side either...mainly because of how near it is to the wall the pic doesnt show how close it is and ideally he wants to replace the whole of the green piece0

You might as well replace as much as you can but I wouldn't worry too much because it will clean off.Not Again0 -
You might be able to tighten it up with a basin wrench but there really isn't much room. Theres no chance of putting an adjustable on it. FRankly its an apalling piece of plumbing (the gas pipe and speedfit) but perhaps excusable if it had to be run under the existing bath with poor access. Personally I'd rip the whole lot out and do it again whilst there is space and room to do it. Defo change the pipework thats leaking - new pipework as well. Look at the corrosion - its been doing it for years!

You might be surprised tomorrow when he has a look at it, just how much you can maneuver the water pipe and how little room is needed to cut off and take out the whole joint by cutting the three pipes.
I've cut ones in tight areas before with one of the circular blue cutters. If you are replacing the whole section you can be quite brutal with it and pull it away from the wall and under the gas pipe.0 -
thanks again guys for your advice and help........I agree it is a dreadful job done by someone...possibly the last owner as he was a bit of a DIY freak....and not very good at it, as the whole place is a bit like the house that jack built!!!0

Even if its right up against the wall & other pipes you can still cut it with a dremel. Not Again0 -

It just been done in stages by someone who didn't know to take a bit of care & thought.
There is a place for compression joints & its not in places like that.
Whoever fitted the gas pipe should of really removed them anyway. Not Again0 -
