  • Hi All,
A small spend last night -
Jacket potatoes, coleslaw, tin of custard and a swiss roll as i really fancied cake and custard, and had no potatoes fresh or in the freezer  - practically unheard of for me, and cuz the deal was so good, i got the 50p for 4 baking spuds in Mr S.

Total now stands at £19.25 - on the 16th of the month - under half my budget - but i will have to get some veg / salad / fruit unless i can live on the frozen green beans and broccoli - i may try that actually - see if i can have a week of NSD's - as i have food and milk in the freezer -

Does anyone have a recipe for banana muffins please?
i have some VERY ripe banana's and instead of throwing them i want to make soemthing yummy!

    Thanks
    SS x

    Afternoon

Just bought some eggs, milk, choccy biscuits and bananas today - £5.56.

Long Tall Sally - I agree about the price of food and particularly processed stuff like those desserts which must cost them just pennies to make.

Reminds you that supermarkets are a business designed to give us as little as possible for as much as they can squeeze out of us!

But you all know this!! Who am I telling :rotfl:??

I reckon I've got about £10 a day left so not too bad so far...
August Shopping Challenge. 26/8. Budget £250 Spent £256.81.. £6.81 over. So £0.00 a day left.

    Hi everyone,

Dinner tonight 'whoopsied' Pasties with new Pots and Swiss Chard from the garden. 2 NSDs this week, today might be another, but there again, it might not.

Evening, everyone. :) Just reporting another NSD today, and something tonight for tea with a whoopsied turkey breast that I had in the freezer. I have no idea what to do though! I might try my hand at a curry. :) Have a good evening, everyone!

    Hi all,
Quick update. Spent £40 on Monday - £30 online tesco shop. Stocked up on a lot of essentials -tea,coffee, cleaning stuff, cat food, loads of tins and packs of chicken breasts, large mince and 6 portions of salmon - most have gone in freezer! I spent about £10 in local farm shop on lots of fruit and veg, local cheese and some garlic stuffed olives(yum!)

I've been so busy(and hassled!) at work this week spent another £12 on lunches and bit's I didn't really need. So not a good week re: my budget but at least I've started stocking up freezer again.

Going on holiday 2morrow so will not need ant more food until next weekend - so should be okay. When I get back I really want to sort out my store cupboard - I was really inspired by the post that showed the photo of all the pretty jars.......oh to be so organised!

Bye for now & good luck everyone

£7.80 spent in Sainsburys today. That was for milk, bananas, sausages, bagels, 2 x bandages and 3 x body spray.

I'm still working my way through my freezer and cupboards which is saving a lot, but no doubt I will need to stock up on quite a bit when i've used it all. I considered doing an online shop, but have decided to wait as I will just make use of what I have in. Still got over 3 weeks in my boot and on crutches (getting very bored of them now) so no popping to the shops for me for a while!

Going to open my giant tin of chickpeas this weekend and make a bit more food to fill the freezer with!

I nipped Morries to get some groceries for my Mum and didn't spend anything myself. Don't ever recall going straight to the items i wanted to get before, i usually peruse all the offers. Better still, after my daughter filled up her car with petrol, i gave her my Morries Milescard and she came back with a £5 Morries shopping voucher for me. Yay!

This is the recipe I use and makes great muffins!
    Banana bread
(great for using up those over ripe bananas)

3 very ripe bananas (almost walking) or use defrosted frozen bananas!
pinch of salt (I don’t add this)
    6oz melted butter
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda dissolved in 1 tablespoon water
    6 oz caster sugar
    1 egg
    9 - 10 oz plain flour

Smash bananas (food processor is great for this recipe).

Add remaining ingredients, mix together. Pour into 2 greased or paper lined 1lb loaf tins or 1 lined 2lb tin.

Bake in moderate oven (180C/350F/Gas mark 4) for 45 minutes. Will also make as muffins, freezes well and is lovely sliced, toasted & dripping with melted butter.
