I have been reading this thread and decided to give the toffee vodka a go, it was amazing but didn't last more than a couple of days (hic) so had to go and get more supplies.
I was distracted by a bag of Fox's Glacier Dark (liquorice and aniseed flavour) and had to try it. OMG it is pernod, ouzo, ricard all rolled into one, but.....it wouldn't win prizes for looks. It's black like dirty dish water.
If you can get past that it's a winner. Just right for the adults at a Halloween party.
Thanks guys for all the amazing ideas
  • I have attempted my first batch of Pear Drop Vodka! Unfortunately I couldn't find proper pear drops :( I could only find the large pear drops that kinda look like the rhubarb and custard sweets with the red bit and the yellow bit!
I've stuck this in my vodka but its gone all cloudy and looks a bit like pink milk! Will this still taste ok? :S

I'm sure it will taste fine :)

You can try strainign it through muslin to see if it clears?

    Or could try coffee filters.

Sure taste fine, my pear drop used the large pink ones - looks bit like pepto-bisamol (excuse spelling), but take that as a good sign as it means the sweets are dissolving x
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • Thanks i'll try straining it :D

How do you make the cherry liquor? Also with the flavoured vodkas do you just put in the sweets and shake? How long do you leave it for?

not that clever - the cherry liquor, -aldi purchase, used in with some cherries.

Vodka, - cheap and cheerful vodka, just chucked the sweets into the bottles topped up with vodka, good shake. in a week the toffees are dissolved, the wine gums, pear drops, kola cubes being a bit more stuborn. Its 2 weeks before most stuff dissolve, thou shaking helps mix it.

Good luck with the chutney making.

home made biscuits, home made cake, mgt be good for the hampers, or if she likes coffee - you can make flavoured coffees - shout if you want the recipies....

main ingredients coffee, drinking choc or cocoa, and whitener. 100g jar coffee, goes far xx

updated version of flavoured coffees (made a couple of adjustments)

    COFFEE MOCHA

Fill tub/jar with Equal parts of instant Coffee and Unsweetend Cocoa Powder (I used Drinking Chocolate) also added coffee whitener - same amount as choc and coffee

    CAFE VIENNA

Fill Jar/ Tub with Coffee and add a pinch of Cinnamon

    SWISS MOCHA

The same as Coffee Mocha, but maybe use a differnt coffee or Cocoa so the flavor is different - again add whitener to the mix

    CAFE VIENNA MIX

    4 spoons Coffee
    1 spoon Cocoa

    1 spoon whitener
    Pinch of Cinamon

Keep doing this until Jar/ tub is full

    CAFE Au Lait

Equal Parts Coffee & non dairy creamer so half and half.

What we did was measure into a bowl, get a good mix and then put in the jars - allowed a shake as well.

Don't know if its still on offer in Lidl - but we got 100g jar of Red Mountain coffee for £1.00

    ----
    We used
    3 jars of coffee
    half tub hot choc
    500g packet of coffee whitner

    From there we've got
    500g jar
    3 coffee jars
    hot choc (200g size jar)

Just got to decant into cello bags nearer the time xx

you could easily get 1 jar of coffee - go a long way xx
