I just thought it is worth sharing our Facebook page about all the trouble we have had due to Rouge Trader, Paul Bridle of Broadbridge Heath, Horsham.
Please go to Facebook and search for HorshamBuildingNightmare as I am a new user it won't let me share links.
This has been a knightmare for the last two years, and seen ours and family members savings all used up to build up to what we have to date.
Currently he is going bankrupt and this has meant apparently we can't pursue getting a charge on his house like others have, although having signed proof of the amounts owed and agreed to pay us back (£28,000.00).
As he is a neighbour of ours it makes it more difficult. His family try to deny what has happened and make our we are liars, abuse from his daughter, and we had to change our sons class in the local school as his wife was his support teacher.
Paul used come round every other evening with the dog to talk about the work, and basically make our he was a local good guy, even having my wide and kids (5yr twin boys) over for lunch, which now all seems like a con so we wouldn't thing anything was wrong when asked for money.
Hopefully someone who is thinking of using Paul Bridle will read it and it will save them. If it can help one person then its done its job.
What seems the craziest thing is there is seeming no justice for this man.
Please can you like and share our page if you can. And many thanks to Mike.

My partner (Dee N.) and I recently employed a builder from Scarborough to build our extension after receiving the required planning permission etc. The builder (Nigel Rowley of Barrowcliff Road, Scarborough YO12) agreed and signed a contract for £16.800 (labour, no materials) with a completion date of December 15th 2016.
With a few hitches and false-starts Mr Rowley (and labourer) worked on the build up to January 2017 getting to roof level. He took an age on the roof (a simple arrangement of joists with some traditional) and in fact asked for and received extra money for the roof (we still believed his word at this point). When we had cause to start pointing out obvious errors and sloping lathe/slates....he just upped and left! No word, no apology, no explanation, nothing.
On examination of his work it is clearly not only dangerous to ourselves and any visitors and neighbours but also not of the quality that was expected and he certainly has not used 'reasonable care and skill', In short, it's cowboy build stuff that badly needs exposing to ensure no future customers become victims as we have.
We tried all attempts to contact him (telephone, SMS, emails, signed for letters, Facebook) all without him having the common courtesy to respond. In desperation I have contacted his partner Caron Jamieson, also in Scarborough but again no response.... potentially complicit and/or maybe even living off his ill-gotten gains - time will tell. He has three daughters, all of whom I have contacted to attempt to shame their Father into some kind of action but I am unsure what type of family they are - they seemed to be decent prior to this.
We estimate our costs to remedy Mr Rowleys work to be up to £10,000.
To warn other customers who may be considering Mr Rowley as a prospective builder I have created a website with additional information, images etc (probably easily found via a Google search) which may be of interest to you for further information.
Since publishing the website I have had contact from previous customers who have had similar experiences as ours so this behaviour is not a one off or 'out of character'. It seems to be planned, conniving and purely money-motivated and hang-the-consequences. My partner and I believe in being upfront straight and honest but if we receive poor service or get treated badly then, as active consumers we feel we have a responsibility to others to ensure that.
We have reported Mr Rowley to Trading Standards, the Police and will be pursuing him through the Money Online (Small Claims) process or bringing criminal procedings - even if that requires a private prosecution..
Mr Nigel Rowley seems to have to hop around the country picking up work using pretty much the same modus operandi and then fleeing when he is unable to face the consequences or 'man up' to his innocent customer. Brave stuff!regards Guy

Hi everyone, I am slowly making my way through thus thread so I have quite a bit to catch h up on but just wanted to give you guys the jist of my situation. Hired a 'contractor' who we knew personally to do our flat roof extension (2 separate extensions to same house) and after badgering us constantly for money and very slow progress we let him go. After this time we find a lost of things that haven't been done right or not at all and building control completely in the dark apparently. The main issue is the floor (posted separate thread few weeks past). There is so concrete sub floor 😜..... We are at the stage where we have moved back in and thought we would be laying tiles etc in new year but entire new floor needs dug back up. Can't explain how completely betrayed and angry we feel about this all. Legally we are being told if we take action we aren't guaranteed we'd get money back to fix this and building control are telling us of we persue from a building control angle they could fine us £100 a wee until issue sorted.
