Help I was reading this thread and there is definately no warning that it could be funny or dangerous, I ended up falling off the chair laughing and hurt my wrist, can I claim compensation?
Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.

....which reflects light and would have been immediately obvious to anyone actually looking where they were going. The fact that there wasn't a massive pile of bodies all with attributable injuries suggests that basically everyone except you managed to deal with it.

But it wasn't obvious. And the fact it was a late evening train with very few passengers meant that others probably didn't encounter this hazard.

I'm not seeking compensation. I'm not trying to sue anyone. I'm not on the phone to Claims Direct. I just would like the cost of my taxi fare covered, which I wouldn't have had to pay had I not slipped on a dangerous pool of water which wasn't obvious to passengers but which the management of the station knew about but hadn't signposted.

Don't be so unsympathetic. In my view - and probably the view of the law, should someone want to go down that route (which I don't) - the station staff should have put a bollard up around the leak or warned people that the platform was slippery. They didn't, I slipped and ended up with a torn pair of shorts, bleeding leg, bruising and swelling to the knee and it's painful to walk right now.

the claim culture in this country is getting stupid very much like the states,i mean someone has an accident because of a lapse in concentration or because they are in a hurry yet they are looking to put a claim in.!!!!!! just use it as a lesson turn up with enough time before train departure so you do not need to rush.

    I wasn't rushing.

I slipped on a pool of water.

This is not a case of me tripping over my laces, or falling over because I was running. I slipped on a hazard of someone else's making.

Its a wonder the human race still exists, however did we survive before signage?

I have a vision of a Neanderthal suing the local tribe leaders because they didn't put out a "Beware of the Sabretooth" warning.

OP, Write them a letter detailing what happened, the staff don't seem to be very health and safety conscious and could do with a talking to from their bosses by the sound of it. They may or may not refund your taxi fare, but if you don't ask you don't get.

    Good luck.

but slipped on a big pool of water that had been caused by a leak from the ceiling above the platform.
IT IS INDOORS! How is water on a platform caused by a leaking pipe a natural event?

Perhaps if you got your story straight we could take your post more seriously and actually have some sympathy for you...

(who's betting it now becomes a leaky pipe in the ceiling???)
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Who was the train operator and where were you travelling to ?
Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.
  • I would go as far as to say that the OP has not only a right, but a duty to complain under the circumstances. This was an accident which could easily have been prevented (for example by using one of those "slippery floor" sandwich-board-style warning signs), and the train company should be made aware of this to remind them to take such precautions to protect customers in future. If the OP explains what happened calmly and politely as s/he has done here, the train company will probably be happy to pay the £30 taxi fare without admitting liability, and relieved that the customer is not seeking additional compensation.
If it were just about the taxi fare, the best approach would have been to ask station staff at the time, and they would (or should) have arranged transport at the train company's expense. This would have been necessary if the customer had no money for a taxi. Train companies have accounts with local taxi firms since they sometimes have to arrange alternative transport for customers (if, for example, they miss their last train because the connecting train was late).
    One piece of advice though...
I got there in plenty of time but had to dash a little as the guard was blowing his whistle and telling everyone to hurry up.
    I wasn't rushing.
...try not to contradict yourself! If the guard hurrying people up did not cause or contribute to the accident, don't mention it just because it (understandably) annoyed you.
