Well i always had my current account running good - i had one default (now partially satisfied) and ready to drop off this year but at the time it was not it was just a big fat 8 and too many searches, plus i was financially associated with 2 ex's who's files where crap, once i started getting to know how the the credit files/rating worked i started cleaning it up by removing the people i was associated with - then i contacted the loan company and came to a settlement ( took the loan out for a ex friend, i know stupid ) and that was marked as satisfied - i then waited around 8 months until the remainder of my searches dropped off then applied for a mobile phone contract, got that, applied for a catalogue then a sub prime credit card all within a few days and managed to get them too, kept them going good and now have 3 yrs plus history, made all payments on time but i didn't pay in full every month i sometimes split it between 2 or 3 months as companies look to see how much money they can make from you too - so here's hoping come september when the default drops off i will manage to get myself a decent prime card.

Yeah well thats what i ment - i understand it's just a number guessed up by experian, but if we really do not know how banks and credit card company's score people ( apart from what we know already ) how do we know they do not take this score into account in there scoring process ?

aha, got a current account on there thats given me green 0's for a year, only problem is with British Gas, they messed upo my billing somehow, i used to get monthly now its every 2 months or something and i misplaced the bill and forgot until they sent letters, plus the dec-jan bill was 145 when its usually 22 as i have electric heaters so i didnt pay it all at once. Ill try and see if I can get the late payments removed somehow and for some reason it says I owe £110 or something but it looks like it was updated before i paid last months bill

Does anyone know how you cancel the Vanquis card as I have been accepted for a First Direct card with a £1800 limit.

    Thanks :)

Dunno - what method did you use to obtain the First Direct card ?

Ok, thought it might be something like that but presumed I would have to write to them returning my card.

I suggest you don't close your Vanquis account until you actually get your new card in your hands. There have been a few cases of people being accepted and immediately declined by some issuers, although possibly not by First Direct.

I'm not going to cancel it until I've paid this months balance off anyway, but it did cross my mind that they might not send it - hopefully it'll arrive today!
And it was opened with my current account with them & is showing in online banking so we'll see.
