I find the free credit reports and credit alerts from having a capital one card pretty beneficial.

I have a cap one card and have never been offered free credit reports?

Is this on a specific card? A separate offer you get?
Would hate to think I have paid for something I could have got for free (can't do the subscription thing again as it won't let me have a free trial again).

Doh found a link from the main capital one website to register for the service. Could have had a free report-just paid £2 for one today, ironically charged to the capital one card lol. Still means we can get Oh's report for free now I know.

Well i always had my current account running good - i had one default (now partially satisfied) and ready to drop off this year but at the time it was not it was just a big fat 8 and too many searches, plus i was financially associated with 2 ex's who's files where crap, once i started getting to know how the the credit files/rating worked i started cleaning it up by removing the people i was associated with - then i contacted the loan company and came to a settlement ( took the loan out for a ex friend, i know stupid ) and that was marked as satisfied - i then waited around 8 months until the remainder of my searches dropped off then applied for a mobile phone contract, got that, applied for a catalogue then a sub prime credit card all within a few days and managed to get them too, kept them going good and now have 3 yrs plus history, made all payments on time but i didn't pay in full every month i sometimes split it between 2 or 3 months as companies look to see how much money they can make from you too - so here's hoping come september when the default drops off i will manage to get myself a decent prime card.

Yeah well thats what i ment - i understand it's just a number guessed up by experian, but if we really do not know how banks and credit card company's score people ( apart from what we know already ) how do we know they do not take this score into account in there scoring process ?

No of course i wouldn't let someone else lend my money - what im trying to say is how do we know these scores from all the CRA's doesn't play any sort of role in there credit scoring process ? im just wondering =) i know the banks and credit card companies make the final decision wether to lend the money out and not the CRA's but maybe the score makes a little difference ? Who knows !!

Well put it like this Atom apart from big daddy dave who do you know who hasn't got a credit score of 999 with Experian, everyone who hasn't missed a payment in the last year has a 999 credit score.

If banks went by Experian scores everyone would be walking about with Amex black cards.
Someone on here Earlier today said he has missed many payments in the last year but hey Experian obviously takes missed payments as positive because his score came up good.

The banks don't give a hoots monkey what your score is from Experian and they wouldn't know it either.
