High risk item - some companies demand an up front payment for two reasons - a) extra proof that it is you ordering the item and not a fraudster b) extra proof that you can actually afford the repayments
More heavily the first option - as catalog accounts are common target for people committing identity theft and it's the electrical goods like TVs, games consoles, PCs, and HiFi equiptment that the fraudsters go for
Are you sure you want to get a TV from the catalog? They're massively more expensive than most other places online - try doing a froogle search and you'll see what I mean.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Had you been spending more running up to the time you ordered your last TV than you have been more recently?
It might also be likely that their policies have changed.
Or their policy is to do it to every x customers that order a high risk item, maybe at random.
Whatever the cause for the discrepancy, this time it will be as an anti fraud measure and / or extra proof you can afford what you've ordered
They may be able to confirm this if you call themCashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

NatWest did search Experian yesterday when I applied for a student account over the phone. In fact, they searched me twice, one for the current account and one for the credit card, so I'm guessing I've been accepted as they're still showing as accepted after all searches have been made.0

Can anyone help, I posted this but had no responses
I am puzzled. I bank with HSBC, and have been with them for under 20 years. I have a CGC, an overdraft and a personal loan. However I can't get a credit card from them. In the past, telephone banking have told me I am pre approved for a CC, yet when I go forward with the application I am declined.
Surely an unsecured loan is more of a risk than a CC. I have had a number of loans over the years.

Have you check to see if you meet the behaviour score of 60+ for the credit card. It strange that you do not meet the score for the credit card but you meet the behaviour score for loans which is higher than the credit card at 70+0 -

Do a search for never in doubt link on HSBC behaviour scoring.
My confusion is how can I meet the behaviour score for a loan and overdraft, but not for the card? I have never been able to get the card, but can get loans and an overdraft.0
