I am currently on a DMP with CCCS with one current default. I haven't missed any payments over the past 4 years and will complete DMP early next year.

Is there any point in applying for a Vanquis (or other) card in an attempt to start rebuilding my credit rating?

    Thanks
  • telecom... how long did you have the HSBC account before they gave you a credit card?

3 months, note I payed in over £1500 (salary credit) opened a regular saver £50 month, didnt go overdrawn etc..

rang up for an overdraft £250 and they said we can also give you a credit card £1000 limit...happy days

Definitely :o Consider Capital One Classic and Aqua before Vanquis as they are cheaper to service ;)

    YES!

took a shot and applied for a littlewoods account just to see if i could and got £250 limit, not much but ill run it well to get those green 0's

Spend a bit, pay it off each month and you'll find that Littlewoods are fairly generous with their limit raises. Up to £750 already within 4 months.

OK took the plunge and applied for Aqua. If I am lucky to be accepted it will be payed off in full every month. Is there anything else I should do to improve my credit rating?

I started at £400 with Very last December and they've never increased my limit. In fact, no company I am with has ever increased my limit from the one originally given to me.

I have just asked them for an increase by email, will be interesting to see what they say.
Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.

I started with Shop Direct Group in Feb 09, Additions initial limit £400 now £3100, Empire initially £750 now £4400. Hve found that after a 3 month period every order placed in a NEW month following statement produces a £300 increase with every order.
    Hope this helps :D
