    I'm on a £35 a month contract - for that I get 1GB 3G Internet, 2000 Mins, 4000 Texts, 3000 Three-to-Three mins, 100 SMS messages, and an Experia X10.

I can browse the web very effectively on the handset or connect it to my laptop and do the same. No need for a separate mobile broadband contract these days :o
Yea I stick my PAYG sims in my broadband dongle and buy the 50p a day thing, but technically you're not supposed to do that :p

I'd like proper mobile broadband though as what o2 gave me was shocking so I couldn't use that, and the PAYG ones are shocking too and run out after half hour. They've now messed up my contract so I actually get unlimited internet and unlimited texts (should only have one), so I might just use that (only used to have 1mb), but bit scared of them backdating charges so don't want to go overboard :rotfl: My contract expires in November though and I'm changing as soon as I can so it's only a temporary solution for my 4 epic train journeys in August! So actual mobile broadband would be nice, but it's not value for money and I'd go way over 1/3/5GB limits

    But over the 24 months you'll be paying £600 ~ £720 for a £275 laptop.

How does that make it easier to get your deposit saved up over time?

First things first - I'm not a total thicko - I made this choice for some fairly specific reasons ;)

It wasn't one of those deals where you've given a random crappy netbook and pay through the nose for it. I got a decent mid-range gaming laptop of my choice and now I'll pay through the nose for it :D

Total cost = £99.99 + 24*40 = £1059.99 for a £600 laptop and £360 worth of broadband access that we would have taken anyway (not getting a landline in our next place).

So I'm overpaying by £100 over 2 years. Oh God, the shame (sarcasm alert).

We're buying a house in 6 months - I'd far rather lose £20 a month (GF will pay half) and keep the £600.

Perhaps you could make more informed comments if you actually bothered to ask a bit more about the circumstances instead of just coming across as cheeky? ;)
Is that the month 4 increase? Or just a random one?

Not entirely sure mate - they've reported 5 months of credit history to the CRAs, but I'm fairly sure I've only had 4 statements generated so far.

Ah OK fair enough I'll shut up then :o

Thankfully you looked hard enough not to be taken in by one of the more common deals

Oddly enough, it was the only one I could find and I was probably vaguely lucky to do so (Currys Digital - not that I recommend the shop ;))

Don't be too hard on yourself - I'm every bit as critical of most of these deals myself! Still, needs must when the devil (and very specific circumstances) drive!

Fair cop. Next time you're due for an upgrade I can wholeheartedly recommend the Lenovo / IBM T-Series Thinkpads. eBay is a great source, my house mate has a T43p and I have a T61p, £250 and £550 respectively and they are phenomenal machines. Built like bricks, impossible to break unless launched out of a window, great quality, high spec, all round superb machines.

Worth keeping in mind for a few years down the road :o

Thanks for the tip - I've started a £20/mth SO to savings cover the cost of replacement, hopefully won't need touched for 3 years or so.

    Lol :)

I did go into the Apple store and found it to be such a temple to 'poser tech' that I left after less than 5 minutes. I do use an iPod, but for the moment that's as far as Apple and I go...
