Does anyone buy ice cubes?

I always thought it was a waste of money until I started buying them. I don't smoke, and rarely drink alcohol, and I don't have Sky. But I do love LOADS of ice in my drinks - and £1 every couple of weeks or so is such a small price to pay for a little luxury and convenience.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

we live in an extremely hard water area...... have to have a water filter for even drinking water or making tea! always have a 6 pack of evian on standby!!... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
so yes, my ice cubes are always from filtered or mineral water..I use lots of the ice cube bags..and always have lots in supply...nothing snobbish ...just having to do it that way..but if I was having a party, and was low on them, I would buy some!!
May I say....you choose to have filtered water; we too live in a very hard water area (I mean like you boil the kettle twice and it needs descaling lol). We always drink water from tap and it never did us any harm.:p:p An expensive taste to acquire I say.
At least you don't go out and buy the tap water cubes on a regular basis. I call it lazy:D (OK, I'll let you off if you're having a party..as long as I'm invited:cool:)MFiT - T2 # 64start date: 1.7.09 MFW end date: 31.10.17

Does anyone know where the cheapest place (supermarket) to buy ice from is (if indeed there is a difference)? Got 20-30 people for a garden party in a couple of weeks and suspect we are going to need a LOT to chill wine etc.
Thank you!)
(oh and please don't suggest freezing it myself - no freezer room for that amount - will be going straight into big buckets and hoping it doesn't melt too quickly!)
what you need to do is use the ice to chill buckets of water instead of just using straight ice to chill the bottles.0 -
I don't buy ice but I didn't realise it was so cheap, so I might do in future. I like to fill my entire glass with ice, 12 cubes in each glass fills it up so I'm always running out of homemade ice.0

ocado have the mineral water version at the same price as the other supermarkets sell the regular version0

for me this seems a waste of money, but thats only my opinion, as there obviously is a demand for them
For me, making them for days ahead of a party seems as a waste of time (which in my measures my time costs loads more money:)).
I personally have never bought them yet, but will do for the next party. Last time I bough those ice bags and they cost at Tescos nearly the same amount as a bag of those ice cubes. So I might as well (and no, I will not drive to Iceland or somewhere especially to get them 50p cheaper, will spend more on fuel if I do;))0 -
I make ice cubes out of old yoghurt pots. I find the bigger the ice cube, the longer it takes to melt and the less often I need to replenish it. If the yoghurt pot cracks as it sometimes the case, I just recycle it.0

I usually make mine days ahead. But if I'm pressed there's always a tesco around the corner and their ice does the job and it's cheap0

i see no problem with them. Perfect for BBQ's. I bought a 4kg bag @ Glasto this year for £7. BEST £7 ever spent! had the most GLORIOUSLY ice cold drinks from thurs till sat.0

We always make ours using ice cream tubs/tupperware tubs. We always ask neighbours/friends (we are fortunate that we can call upon 5 different homes just in a matter of 100 metres if we are having a bbq/party) to freeze a few each.
They take ages to defrost then as they are so much larger.0
