Cable required is male-male both ends.
What kind of DVI connection does it have? I understand it's DVI-D but is it a single or dual connector? (I don't mean 1 or 2 plugs!)
It's actually dual, but you can use either.

    From the PDF manual:

    "Input Connector: D-Sub 15pin / DVI-D 24pin (Dual-Input Model)"

"2. Connect one end of the 24-pin DVI cable (Dual input mode optional) to the back of the monitor and connect the other end to the computer’s DVI port."

If you still have doubts, many here have purchased single-link & happily using it :). I cannot tell the difference between VGA & DVI, so I'd imagine it would be that much more difficult to tell apart between single & dual-link. G
  • Dual link simply sustains higher data transfer and wouldn't be necessary for a monitor this size/res.

    You need a male cable.

I think you'll find that means that it has both DVI and VGA inputs - I'm 99% sure the monitor doesn't have a DVI dual link connector ISTR checking before ordering my cable.

Both DVI and VGA can be conncected at the same time, the monitor defaults to DVI unless you choose VGA from the onscreen menu. HTH

It does actually, because I purchased & am using a dual link DVI-D cable :D, G
  • Fair enough :)
  • HannsG tell me it's a dual DVI-D connector. My graphics card has a dual DVI-I socket. Can you buy a lead like that?

In that case, you can use a DVI-D male-male cable - see this helpful chart. G

Sui_Generis is right about the single/dual-link making no real difference unless really required - from click here:

"Dual link vs Single Link: Don't believe the "hype" some websites are using about dual link cables being superior to single link cables. A single link cable is 100% as good as a dual link cable for single link equipment which covers about 99.5% of current equipment, including HDTV's, Projectors, Plasma Screens, and High Definition Set top Boxes. A better quality cable is a better quality cable, and single and dual link has nothing to do with quality. On the other hand, if both devices being connected support Dual links, then a dual link cable is the proper cable for the application, and you will have the capability of much greater resolutions and refresh rates. A properly designed Dual link cable should have no negative effects when used with single link equipment."
  • Thanks for that...loads on Ebay

…because the HW191D’s maximum resolution is 1440x900 @ 75 Hz. This can go over a single-link. If it can go over a single-link, it’s not allowed to be sent over a dual-link. See pages 11-12 of the DVI Specification. That means, even if the graphics card, monitor and cable support two links, only one will be used. The reason a dual-link DVI-D cable works is because the single-link and dual-link cables have the same plugs, and the pins used in a single-link are connected in exactly the same way in a dual-link cable.
