someguy, I've changed over to the VGA connection & have the settings exactly as you mention. The others are also set at 50 & 93 (incidentally, this 'Image Setting' option is available in VGA only, being greyed-out in DVI). There's no visible banding at all (I'm relatively young & my eyes are good!).
However, your colour settings are giving me a slightly blueish tint - I suppose it would do with that setting so much higher than the others. If you cannot see this then the cable may be at fault (& causing both problems??).
I had a similar problem as above with my previous monitor where a fault in the cable (close to the connector at the graphics card end) used to cause one colour to go. A bit of moving up/down & twisting the cable near the connector used to set it right (until it was moved 'out of sync' again). With everything switched on, try this throughout the length of the VGA cable to see it makes a difference to the display at all.
Before that, carefully check that the VGA connector pins on both ends of the cable are complete & intact. There should be 15 pins in each. G0 -
Wow. I wasn't expecting you to go through that much trouble.
Anyway, I've got a DVI cable on order (dual link) so I'll try that out. The banding is pretty unnoticeable - it's just me being picky about things I guess. I think I'm just going to forget about it and let my eyes decide if it's a good monitor or not. In other words making sure I'm not getting any eye fatigue etc...
I'd have liked to have tried it with my radeon 9800 pro - but that seems to have died (graphical corruption) so I've been forced back to my old Geforce Ti4200 lol.
Anyway, thanks again GoofyGAT! :beer:0 -

Sorry, I've just reread this. I probably didn't explain it too well. The monitor settings were as follows: 6500K, B: 55, C: 60. However, under 'Display Properties' (in Windows), I was referring to selecting a wallpaper as 'none' and clicking the 'color' button to bring down the drop down box and selecting 'other'. From there you can specify the desktop colour either by moving the cursor on the grid or entering specific values. In my case I entered 48, 60 and 101 for red, green and blue. Sorry for the confusion.
Anyway, not to worry.0 -

. I did the wallpaper OK, but thought you meant the monitor's inbuilt colour settings. Anyway, I now tried your Windows colour settings & still don't get any banding.

Ok. Just an update. I was sent my DVI cable on Thursday. It hasn't done anything for the banding but the colours seems 'different'. I've also had to tone down the brightness like GoofyGat has.
Anyway, I know I said I was trying to ignore the 'banding' problem but I did a few extra 'tests'. Using the following image http://hetyo-wiz.mydns.jp/hw_upload/~2407wfp/file/up2407WFP_0044.png I've got the following (taken by my digital camera):

Also to highlight the banding I was describing on the desktop I've taken the following shot:
http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/7605/banding1jh9.jpg
I've used the above test image on my LCD monitor at work (a Dell E196FP) and the transitions are flawless.
I wondered if it was my graphics card but I've changed that to a Radeon card and used the display on another computer and it still has the same effect.
Do you think it's worth waiting for a driver update or returning the display? I know it was only £105 but I'm quite picky about things. Do you think it enough justification to return it?

Mine's failed to arrive so far.0

I'm returning mine. DVI & VGA images are almost the same but I've found it impossible to get natural flesh tones and the colours generally are pretty awful.
A pity because it was a great price.0 -
someguy, viewing the 1st image I can see banding on my screen as well.
I've also just had a look at many pictures - personal, desktop backgrounds, etc - & I can see banding in all of them, but none when I've 'None' selected in Display Properties > Desktop.
I'll post the test image on a computer forum I frequent & ask people there to have a look as well. G
P.S. I received your PM, thanks0 -
someguy, sorry for the delay in getting back.
Try this site http://www.pagetutor.com/colorpicker/index.html. Change colours by clicking on the boxes on the left. Do you see any banding? I don't see any on mine, but getting banding with pictures (but no all) on my PC & websites.
I've posted the query at the PCA forum - to view/follow the thread click here. To post there, you'll need to register first. G0
