What to do if someone jumps onto your bonnet?

''Was woken up by drunken football fans 3am in the morning. They were walking down the street shouting to each other. One of them jumped on a car and started to relieve himself over the roof. Unless the owner is deaf i assume he was afraid to come out to stop this.
If you were in his position would you have come out to stop them?''
What i want to know is if someone jumps onto your bonnet and leaves a dent what will you do?
If you do a citizen arrest and hold the idiot till the police arrives can you get him to pay for the damages?
or do you have to repair it yourself?
don't know why but i feel the police will just give him a slap on the back of his hand and left him go in the morning

Live in a better area!!!
The worst we might get here is the village cricket team raising their voices slightly after one too many local ales.Self confessed nerd when it comes to anything financial and/or numerical! :cool:0 -
probably not advisable but getting in the car and driving off would pass through my mind0

bit too late if the damage is done.
Just thinking that if you heard them coming down the street and they were damaging the cars enroute then yes get dressed quick and drive off or maybe stand in the garden????Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

I would maybe have tried, but to be honest I probably would have found it hard to do a citizens arrest while the rest were kicking me.
Thinking about it getting the camera may be a good idea, unless they see you and object, again with the kicking.0 -
I'm a militaria collector and part of that collection is an array of weaponry. Experimenting to see if the old weapons still work might be the way forward0

This happened to me before Christmas a couple of years ago... I was woken by a drunken yob crunching his way over the bonnet and roof of each car on the street, and sure enough, I saw him jump onto my bonnet, hop along the roof, and jump onto the car behind.
I rang the Gardai, told them what had happened, waited for the gang to go further down the street, then hopped into my car and tailed them from a safe distance. I kept following them until a squad car found me (I was still on the phone to them the whole time), they caught him, I identified him (from a distance), he admitted the damage and they chased him for the money. It cost him €1200 to repair my car alone, and I told all the other car owners what had happened the next morning. I don't know if they chased him for repairs, but I got loadsa wine that Christmas:D.
I also took photos at first light next morning, which was a good job, because all the dents popped out about an hour afterwards, making the damage look minimal.
Result for me that time... it has happened in the past that yobs kick off the wing mirrors on all the cars on the street, or piddle on the door handles - if I caught anyone doing something like that, I'd go after them every time.I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

I take it you are based in Ireland. Don't know if you have the same law there but here the icing on the cake will be if the police fine you for using a mobile phone while in charge/control of a carProblem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

Some yob did this to my dads Morris Ital back in the seventies, so it's not a new trend.
Steel that doesn't rust in 2 British winters however, is a relatively new trend.
His foot ended up mashed against the radiator/fan and by the time he'd extricated himself, what was left of the crumbling bodywork had lacerated his leg.

This used to happen to a colleague on a regular basis. The kids would go up and down all the cars in the street drunk late at night.
After the second time, one of his neighbours put a roof rack on his Volvo which the kid caught his ankle on, breaking it and then faceplanted into the second bar of the roof rack.
The police said if it had been anything other than a roof rack up there they would, unfortunately, have had to arrest the guy for putting up a booby trap, but since a roofrack has a legitimate reason for being there, they wern't concerned. They were also laughing their !!!!!! off.
Don't know how you'd get on with making them pay though. It would be a civil suit and if they turn out to be on the dole or something you might see a pound a week for the next 5 years or something.0
