Due to this thread I bought a pack of Aldi Golden Fries today - 1.5kg for 99p. Looking forward to trying them!

I always buy Homefries too. However, a while ago I bought these "Best oven chips in the world" in the newspaper style printed bag from Iceland and we found them quite acceptable. When I went back for some more, there they were gone!! Does anyone know what happened to them or is it just my local store that stopped selling them? Maybe they just stopped putting them in the newspaper style bag and I am overlooking them?
My earlier post helped me remember to look when I was in my local Iceland the other day and they didn't have any either or anyhting that looked like it was the equivalent. I think they've been discontinued.

HAving read the posts here, I'm going to try Aldi Goldenfries next.

I don't know what it is but McCain Homefries leave an awful sticky, glue-like substance on the baking tray and it's because of this that we won't eat them. We prefer to make our own wedges most of the time but other than that we find Sainsbury's own brand oven chips passable....

I find this too - and no amount of washing will get it off! I have been buying the Rooster oven chips of late - they are less than 3% fat and lower in calories than any of the other brands and they are okay. I agree with those of you who say that oven chips aren't that nice but I won't have a deep fat fryer and find that chips made with real potatoes cooked in the oven always go soggy a few seconds after you get them out of the oven whenever I make them. I went to my friend's the other day and she has a Tefal Actifry - the chips were lovely but I can't justify that kind of expense ATM.

I believe Iceland still has them and there has just been a change in packaging design, pretty much all of their products have gone through a change of design in the last few months(frozen stuff anyway). I think their just called home-style chips, £1 bag, did it used to say something along the lines of "probably the best chips in the world!" on the pack?

If so I'm pretty certain I know which ones you mean and Iceland does still sell them, I'll check tomorrow.
