If you fancy a change, then Tesco Frozen Potato Wedges are a good price, 52p for a 750g bag (that's the regular price, not a special offer). The bag says they are 'spicy' but I wouldn't say they that they are, they do taste nice though.
Here is a pic:

Uncooked potatoes are best kept somewhere cool and dry, but don't keep them in the fridge. This is because putting potatoes in the fridge can increase the amount of sugar they contain, which could lead to higher levels of a chemical called acrylamide when the potatoes are baked, fried or roasted at high temperatures.Stompa0 -
You keep potatoes in the fridge...?
I do too.
This is because I don't have a cool place in my house, or a dark place where I can store spuds. I also don't eat that many spuds, so a 2kg bag will last me 6 to 8 weeks. They last longer in the fridge than they do in a paper bag on the kitchen floor, and I don't trip over them!
If I didn't put them in the drawer in the bottom of the fridge that space would never get used, and I would have to use up other space to store the spuds. So keeping them in the fridge is the best option for me. It's empty space, it's dark and I'm paying to keep it cool, so I might as well use it to store something.0 -
I've never heard of anybody doing so before!
You obviously don't read the old style board.

I think you have fallen for the old trick "Write can and could and the reader will think will"
I also thinnk you have fallen for scare tactics. Read thisReferring to the chart below for the amount of acrylamide in foods, in a single day, the child can eat 13 kg (29 lb) of French fried potatoes, the woman can drink 86 kg (~86 L, or 23 US gal) of prune juice, and the man can eat 29 kg (64 lb) of oven baked potatoes, and each of them will have ingested less than 50 percent of the NOAEL of acrylamide.
NOAEL = no observed adverse effect level
SO, you can feed a child 29lb of chips per day and they will only consume 50% of the amount of acrylamide where no adverse effect is present.
Or in other words, you can feed a child 58lb of chips per day and there will be no observed effect of acrylamide.
And you are worried about keeping spuds in the fridge because it can increase the sugar lever which could increase the acrylamide level!
I think that if you fed a kid 58lb of chips per day, the acrylamide level would be the least of it's worries :eek:0 -

Hmmm. That's interesting.

I never did manage to find an ok brand of oven chips and used to buy a frozen potato product called Seasoned Slices from Morrisons instead. This has changed now, though, and is nowhere near as yummy. We were given a Tefal Actifry as a present (way too expensive to buy) and now make our own chips. I never thought I would say anything positive about home made chips, but they are lovely. From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0

I buy the lidl chips as well, 50p a bag (1 kilo) and they're quite similar to mcdonalds fries. I also keep my potatoes in the fridge, I find they last much longer there.£2 savers club no.107 :j £36 so far.0

The acrylamide issue seems to be an added bonus, but I agree it's not something I'd be paricularly worried about.Stompa0 -

I've thought about buying one of those, you only need to use a tablespoon of oil right?
But I worried they would get all mashed up getting turned around & around in it.
Also worried it would become an expensive waste of space:(0
