Hi
I'm looking to cut costs but not taste and the times we have chips they are usually Mccains Home Fries but they are quite expensive even for the few times we have them as a family.
What do you think are the best value and also great tasting oven chips? If I can find a cheaper but equally tasty alternative that's a few more MSE pounds in my pocket.

most of the 'finest' type ranges the supermarkets do are similar to Home Fries, but tbh you cant beat Home Fries, so all i can suggest is to stock up, when they are on offer
however, i have found that the oven cook wedges, are a good compromise, as they have a bit more bite to them, but the prices are alot better than home fries. aldi wedges are 69p a bag, so quite alot cheaper

I second that - Homefries when on offer.
Howevwer a while back I tried Iceland own-brand - something like "The greatest oven chip" or something. The bag was printed like a newspaper heading. I don't know if they still do them but they were quite good. (I still went back to Homefries though.)0 -
I find that the ones from Lidl are great, 50p for a big bag. My Mum didn't believe me until she bought some and now she's a convert!0

I don't think any can beat Home Fries. I usually grab them in Farm Foods where the packs that are £2.50ish in Asda/Tesco are only £1:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0

I'm all stocked up on Home Fries, got two vouchers through the post for £1.25 off the 2.5kg huge bags. 5kg of chips should last a while.0

I've always found Aldi Goldenfries to be much the same as Home Fries.

Make your own? Chop a potato into chip shapes. Put into a dish, cover with spray oil and season with salt and pepper. Bake on a baking sheet for 20 mins or so. Healthier, tastier and cheaper. You can add herbs and spices too, if you fancy it.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0

Not as good as Homefries, but Tesco Discount Brand At Tesco Fries are okay if you cook them a bit hotter and longer than the destructions suggest, then throw some salt and ketchup over them. They're even cheaper than Value. Tesco Discount Brand At Tesco Crispy Fries have got a sort of batter coating which makes them nice and crispy, but they cost too much for Discount and only come in small bags.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Hiya,
For great value & taste I always get fries from Iceland, they do loads of different types {thick crinkle, curly, 'american' thin, etc} and they're only £1 for I think it's 1KG bag. They are really tasty! I put mine in the chip fryer but they are oven chips too.
:beer:I'm still driving away and I'm sorry everyday,
I won't always love these selfish things.0
