zppp, accurate to the extent of not making false claims that cheque guarantee facilities are being withdrawn industry-wide when it's only some major players who are doing it and alternatives exist.

Norwich and Peterborough are not members of the main cheque guarantee scheme either ;)

ALL major players are withdrawing the cheque guarantee scheme. Leeds Building Society is not a major player. It's an insignificant building society whose cheque guarantee scheme won't be recognised by anybody once the major scheme is withdrawn.

As for Norwich and Peterborough, -nobody outside those cities has ever heard of it.

Oh dear me, get a life. The majority of banks/building societies, holding the majority of customers, that currently offer cheque guarantee are withdrawing it. Fact.

You will find that similar to how retailers have already wiped the use of them out over the last 5 years, this is going to continue, and be accelerated by the withdrawal of the majority of CGCs in circulation. You may get the odd few companies in Leeds accept their building society's cheque guarantee card. Whoopee doo, why not go to the Advertising Standards Agency?? ;)
    Best Regards

    zppp :)

Incorrect. Norwich and Peterborough and other smaller building societies have been heard of due to their mortgages.

Just because you are ignorant doesn't mean the rest of the population is.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

And precisely how many people outside Norwich or Peterborough have a mortgage with them. 2? 3 perhaps? Certainly not more than a handful.

What will you do when all cheques are abolished?

If you dislike cards (and I don't understand why you would) you can withdraw cash and pay in that.

Why should shops and banks continue to support an expensive system that is used by under 3% of people? Do you think that BT should still provide a telex or pager service for the odd person who might like it?

Well the DVLA will only accept cheques for some transactions, as will one of my Building Societies, so a long way to go yet, it seems.

It won't be long. 2018, I think, is when cheques are due to finish for good.

Well this Mickey Mouse Government will have completely bankrupted the country by then, so I don't suppose it really matters.:D
