The size I want aren't in stock on M&S (Probably a good thing!) so I have asked them to email me when they're back in stock and I will see how my finances are then. I would like a decent pair of boots for winter though as my knee boots are lovely but leak :(

I could have done the gas/electric a while ago, but it's the thing I know least about and was wary of switching because I have heard horror stories about it going wrong. Scottish Power (who I'm leaving) couldn't organise a decent drinking session in a brewery, so I'm sure something will go "bosoms north" with it ;)

    Were you away anywhere nice?

Feeling very virtuous as instead of going to Tesco for something to do at lunchtime I ate my lunch at my desk while looking at OU courses and have been for a 15 minute walk around the block - without taking my purse :A

I have also been doing some credit card sums as I have been using it for work stuff and also had a little excess to clear from last month (I think! It's hard to tell when you have work things going on it!) So, this is currently:

    Balance - £463.58
    Payment in process - £93.81
Sitting in credit card spends account - £12.82 (An account I transfer money into as soon as I spend on my card then I make payments throughout the month)
    Amount outstanding - £356.95
    Expenses due - £348.51
    Amount outstanding - £8.44
To be applied - £14.40 (According to online, not sure what this is tbh!)
    Amount outstanding - £22.84

That could be worse I think! I will pay my Quidco to that this month instead of to my loan (£11.30 due) so there will be a minimal amount to clear over the course of this month. It would be really nice to start next month with no balance on it at all.

I was also thinking about how to fund OU study if I decide to start a course in January. The course I want to do costs £650, so I was thinking that I would pay for it on my Tesco credit card (Gaining around 160 points for doing this - £6.40 in deals) and then transfer the balance to a 0% card. The fee would be about £20 (assuming a 3% fee) but I think I would spend more than this on interest on my Tesco card. It's cheaper than taking a loan out with the OU anyway. I could repay this at £50 per month over a year, and PAD to it as well.

I'm a little uneasy about being debt-free in December (Barring any issues) then taking out debt again right away to pay for a course though. Would that mean I wouldn't really be debt-free? Is there any point in being debt-free for a month??

The other option would be to leave the balance on my Tesco card and clear it if I get a bonus in March.

I need some opinions on this I think, I'm conflicted!!
  • Re the boots F_F, have you had a look at the eBay Outlet Shops? I usually find something that I'm looking for, and the prices are fairly good too

    Sx

PS And you get a few pennies if you go through Quidco :)

I think its fine to take out further credit for OU & i think your plan to use Tesco and then transfer to a 0% card is good.

Ooh FF, I like the M&S boots too - now I want them! Naughty Fresian! :D

  • As far as shoes are concerned, I'm a clarks girl - I try to choose the pair I want, wait for them to be in the sale, then order online through quidco ! free delivery & you can take them back to a shop if necessary

Thats mainly because you don't find many places offering a 7 & 1/2 these days - its usually a limited selection in Clarks or M&S....& the M&S ones make my feet whiffy!!:p

I have been thinking about it, and I suppose that now I know I can be trusted to pay off anything interest free in the time required. I could get Quidco for a new application which would cover any balance transfer fee too :D

They don't have them in my size :( I might take a trip into town at the weekend, but then I don't have the joys of cashback :rotfl:

I'm a 7.5-8 too. It's really hard to find nice shoes that don't make my feet look even bigger!

Today hasn't been a NSD - I was running late for my latest hospital appointment (all is well, it's been confirmed that my gallbladder has to come out. Should be in and out within 24 hours, already hoping the hospital has wifi :D) and I had to get a taxi, so £4.10 went on that.

As I had already b*ggered my planned NSD when Mr Fresian was heading to Asda I decided to tag along :o and spent £13.90 :o:o:o:o

I did get two whole chickens though and as catfood was on two for a fiver that should mean that I don't have to buy it again until payday. Excuses, excuses Fresian.....
  • hi fresian! things are looking good with your numbers. i know what you mean about the in debt/out of debt thing - but an OU course is an investment in your future (or at least an interesting way to pass some time, depending on what you choose!) so if it were me, i would feel okay putting it on the 0% card with plans to pay back at 50/month or sooner if you got the bonus.

regarding boots, i got a nice pair from next a good few winters back, i have had them re-heeled a few times and they are still in great shape. i think they were about 40 quid - they have loads on their website now. tip for reheeling: ask for mens heels, they are more hard wearing and last a lot longer than the ones they usually put on womens shoes...
