You want it all as we all do, but we don't want you to burn out. I think £170k might be a stretch too much.

Buying the car has really upset my apple cart, but i am just going to still do my best. That is all we can do. Gold, silver, bronze targets looked great to me, as some of them were IFs weren't they.

You might also have something else unexpected, so best to have a little leeway.

I like this game 'specially as it isn't my money! :rotfl:

Initially I thought the gold but I think I'll allow you a bit extra ..so somewhere between the gold and silver - 175k ?
I can't be bothered updating this anymore

Hi MFW I am in a similar position so the bronze, silver and gold thing sounds really good, add platinum for getting to £170k you know you want to!

The way things are going for me I will be lucky to get to £170k myself, life keeps getting in the way. Savings are an alien concept in my life so I am admiring that target, mind I suppose the savings will be off set so that will help too. Onwards and upwards.
  • Hey mw
I too would go for avoiding burnout- tho I am definitely another one who wants it all!!
We too are in a position of needing to build up savings, do work on both our places...new (to us) car may come in the next year or so as we both have old bangers! it does get frustrating sometimes not feeling Ive OPd a thing!...
I think bronze silver and gold sounds good- as does 175K as achievable but a bit of a stretch...!

I will have to think of some targets of my own to keep up! ;)

Thanks for the thoughts everyone, I think my gut reaction to froggy's suggestion shows that I'll find a £170K target scary rather than motivating - although I appreciated the encouragement!

I'm going to set myself a £175K target by end of year. That is £15K off the mortgage balance in nine and a bit months, so no mean feat. Medals will be:
    Bronze: £181K or below
    Silver: £178K or below
    Gold: £175K or below
    Platinum: £171K or below

Will update signature to reflect new goals.

toots - my mortgage is not offset, I went for a fixed without the offset as it was a better rate. So savings won't count towards reducing the mortgage in this instance! Keep your chin up, I know you've had a few financial set backs, but all for good reasons and I think you will find your mfw mojo again when you get back from holiday :D.

tyo - look forward to seeing your targets too :D.

Had hospital appointment for DD today - but by time it was finished had the migraine aura come on (double vision). Had to come home with DD, take pills and am tucked up in bed. Managed to order sister a birthday card online, £3.49 but will get 90p cashback from that. Not being able to see very well means that walking to the hsop was out, I am just too shaky. I always forget her birthday too, and she gets really upset about it so hope it comes on time and she likes it. Only good (MFW) thing about migraine is that I saved £7.50 from taking DD to after school club.

Have family coming this evening, had very exhausting last minute moving/cleaning yesterday but home looks like home again for the first time in 6 months :D. We did an online shop to come last night so that we would have time to get the house ready together, was £68 in total. We did stock up a little, but is mostly for food for the weekend, we will just have to eat light from the stores over next week. Tomorrow OH is going to try some ottolenghi recipes from plenty, a cookbook we got for xmas. Our tubeline is down so hope we can have a quiet weekend together without traipsing into town. Sorry, am just rabbiting on now, I know when I stop typing I will have to just be quiet and still for another hour or two until migraine passes.

Thanks ladies. I think the tablet I took stopped the worst of the migraine - it just doesn't really work on auras. I had a little nap, I woke up and can see again :D, but tight band at back of head still there, have taken some paracetamol, and hope that clears it. I am out of those prescription tablets now, need to make another appointment to get some more. Can't have them on repeat, apparently.

Morning all - the sun is shining, it looks like it will be a beautiful day :D.

Family arrived, OH made a lovely chowder for us all and the kids just ran round like maniacs and played together, lovely to see them all so happy. Had good chat with the grown ups and managed to get into bed right side of midnight. Am hoping for a migraine free day. OH and brother have gone to take photos together, and SIL is going for a run shortly. I hope to enrol the kids on a gentle walk through the park so we can drop some stuff off at the charity shop. DD had a declutter of her bedroom which I helped with a couple of nights in the week. We now have a trolley load of stuff from our linen cupboard, and two massive bags of toys from DDs sort out, I want to get them out.

After that we hope to go to a local museum I've not been to before - it has a brand new playground so kids can play after too. OH is going to make a packed lunch. This evening when kids are fed and in bed OH is making paella and salad from his new cookbook, and I'm trying a new gluten free recipe for pudding. Will probably make a few cocktails too ;).

OH paid yesterday, today we transferred his salary to the FD account, and from there have paid £1200 off the mortgage. They aren't taking our first payment until 5 may, so I suppose this counts as my first OP? :j:j:j. I am therefore an official MFW!!! Can't see the mortgage online though when I log in - have sent them a secure message but no reply as yet. Does anyone know how I do this?

  • Hey mw
sounds like a great night and lovely weekend planned and well done on your official MFW OP!! :) much better effort than my tenners at the moment!! :rotfl:
no idea about the mortgage with FD Im afraid but sure someone will know!
well done on the decluttering too - sounds like you are going great guns at restoring your home to order! I think I have decluttered to within an inch of my life- there is nothing left to sell/give away from what I can see! unless I start raiding mrtyo's dvd collection which would be more than my lifes worth! ;)
here's hoping for a migraine free weekend! is the stuff the consultant gave you helping? or is it it a combined approach of identifying triggers/diet/painkillers etc..
