Must admit since mine and DD's bday there has been so much cake and chocolates in the house - just had 2 chocs and a cupcake! Feel a bit sick now, not used to it!

Had a meeting elsewhere which meant I could leave a bit later today - at 5 past 8 had a knock on the door. Thought it might be some belated bday packages... it was a truck load of scaffolders, come to erect the scaffolding for the work   ! Had not received any notification, and they were lucky I was in because any other day I would have been long gone. Had to knock on neighbours to ask if could move car, and other neighbours for set of spare keys... and leave some complete strangers with them and hope it was all ok! Have come back and it all looks good, if frightening! Guess we are on for Monday then...

Was late for work meeting, and half way through had call from school. DD had twisted her ankle - came back, and had to take her to walk in centre to get it checked out. One taxi ride, a rubbish lunch, and 3 hours later - luckily all is ok. I think that explains my need for excess cake and chocolates to try and make the world seem ok!

Now have to call library to renew books, and more than about insurance.

37 minutes later - ended up going for my standard renewal for home insurance (contents and buildings) for £451.01  ! Tried to understand the difference between the cheaper online quote and that of the renewal, and my renewal did cover more risks, with lower excesses... head hurt so much I have given up and renewed, it ran out today so not much time to think further. Still much cheaper than all the other insurers were, and does seem to be generous in the case of a claim.

  • glad dd okay , not surprised you needed cakes/chocolate after that... I have to say for me there never seems to be a thing as "too much" though I have massively had to cut down on the impulse "sweets" buy (everyday pretty much) so perhaps that will have done me good!
sometimes insurance is a battle huh? i have to confess i havent always looked thru things properly and gone for price over content- which would be fine until I needed to make a claim!
  • Posted Amazin book, spent an absolute fortune on an envelope at the Post office . Have been into 99p stores several times the last few weeks but never seem to have the cheap padded envelopes in. Still, made £5.50 profit on the book which I am happy with :D. Need to find another cheap envelope supplier pronto though.

Had the strangest dream last night, George Michael was sleeping on our couch. I was reading a book by him which I thought was a bit rubbish - then realised if I got him to sign it, it would be worth a lot more on Amazon! He wanted to write a personal dedication to thank me for letting him stay, but I just wanted it signed as thought it would be easier to sell that way! I'm even dreaming like a MFW :rotfl:!

Seeing a friend tonight I have not seen since she moved to Ireland when we were 13! She has since moved to America, and is travelling Europe for 3 months. Can't wait! No idea of what sort of budget she is on/place she wants to go to, but have suggested cheap historic pub in town to start, and we can take it anywhere from there.

Cheers toots - had fantastic night, was incredible to see friend after all this time. Felt like yesterday we had been together. Met her lovely husband too. They are travelling for 7 months round the world, what an adventure! They liked the pub, although being a Friday night in London it was rammed. Took them to underground cocktail bar where I treated them to cocktails there. And then walked to chinatown and had meal there. Just brilliant, talked and laughed the whole time. Each bit in itself was reasonable, but by pure sum of parts, worked out spent £43. Worth every penny, and for a few rounds of drinks, cocktails and dinner not lavish - but does mean I now have about £20 of personal money for the rest of the month.

Today OH and I are going to tackle the rest of the stuff in the loft, DD has party from 2-6.

Hi MW I am nipping over from mine to yours. The daily money has worked really well for me and I have not spent it all (£23 in the money box). I am going down to £5 a day next week, it was £8 but I did a big shop so do not need to enter the environs of Waitrose for any reason whatsoever. I have also left emergency soup at work so I will have lunch when I forget it. I am in training for mortgage concentration from January onwards.

Sounds like you had the greatest night out I really think it is important to live well and pay what we can to have more freedom later on. This is my second MFW as I paid off the mortgage on my flat and the few months before I bought a house and got an even bigger mortgage were very sweet.
  • Well done on having done this whole MFW thing before - and taking it on again!

Got some stuff brought down from loft... stressing me out majorly! DD had a fab time at her tea party and all the adults loved her, thought she was brilliant. We took a visit to 5 tile places - think we have settled on these chalky tiles from homebase for the floor and possibly these for the walls of the ensuite, but from local retailer. Tiles are coming in at roughly £380 in total, plus we need to pay the tiler, probably about £500.

OH is worried it will need some colour injecting, I think it will look classy the way it is. His suggestion is to do wall and floor with the beige floor tiles and put bright paint on walls.

Another rare NSD! But think we are going to get the tiles for the floor tomorrow as they are £8 off a pack at the minute, so will save £56 on them.
