museumworker's quest to consign mortgage to history!

The tube strike was a horror I don't think I will try and get there again as four hours traveling was unpleasant, people were angry, you did the right thing working at home in the peace. Do you know when your loft work starts? you must be getting excited now.0

Glad to hear you had a good night out MW!
I'm a bit confused about the Halifax accounts now. We have had a joint one for years but only recently opened one more (for DH) but they said we couldn't open another one.
Maybe I could open one online for myself?
I do just ciculate our money between Halifax accounts tho, i wonder if they will notice?!?June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
STILL can't work out how to do multiquote, so will just reply here to all without the quotes!
CathT - realise I hadn't replied to you on Sat. Sorry to hear about the migraine, and pah! to poxy lunches. It is hard when you think you are getting something provided, and it isn't sufficient. I haven't had one (cross fingers) since last Monday. Am still drinking the water and trying to eat regularly and healthily. Get a bit of a sore head some days, but not a proper migraine. Totally not sure about the halifax thing either.
Tootallulah - yes, getting back early to pick up DD from school would have been nigh on impossible. It was definitely harder to get in this time, and people seemed more aggressive than usual. Loft work due to start a week Monday - yes, am getting excited if a bit nervous. Am going to send an email to the builders to check everything on schedule - and where the drawings are.
TYO - I think I am correct in saying that you don't have to pay in all your DD's for halifax, unlike some, as long as you pay in at least £1k pm, which can be from savings. I'd love to avoid the tube too, luckily I only have to spend 15 minutes on there when it is working well :rotfl:. Think DD is just struggling to settle in with new teacher, will speak to school about it in a few weeks if still going on. Free swim was great, did definitely clear my head, I really want to make sure I go at least once a week as I get a really good feeling afterwards.
Queen-Bee - thanks so much for the halifax advice, much appreciated.
Not much to add on an MSE way - had six hours on a train yesterday for a 40 minute meeting, had to buy breakfast, tea and water but kept it a fiver which is not bad - to railway station prices. £2 A CUPPA!!! Was carrying too many files to make a flask, but did take lunch with me. Had next door neighbour's son's bday, and got him present and card for £5.50 which he LOVED! And dropped book off to buyer, although amazon sent me an email to say I was late dispatching, not sure if that will impact on my ratings or something. It was only 1 day after the 2 working day dispatches, and had emailed the buyer - he was very happy to have it hand delivered!
Today have spent nowtthis is unheard of.
The bad news is I have about £80 left of my pocket money for the month  and it is only the 6th of Oct. The good news is I have £80 to spend if I need it on unessential treats this month :rotfl:.
Still no heating on in museumworker-towers, would love to get to November but think that is pushing it!

Great news on the NSD!
You're doig well without the heating, we have had it on several times for an hour but weather has really warmed up today and is forecast for a while so I am hoping to do without heating and tumble dryer!
Maybe I should move down south? hmmmm, maybe not, low heating costs = SCARY house prices!!!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Thanks CathT, I haven't managed another one though as am working at musuem store today - no microwave - and OH made a dinner which needs reheating for leftover lunches. Got £3 lunch deal from sainsburys, which was actually quite nice, and £1.51 on own brand cold and flu sachets. Took both out of personal money, so £75.49 left for the month!
Feeling like I have something coming on - sore throat, head feels full of cotton wool, feel dizzy... and it is my birthday tomorrow! Am puzzled as am looking after myself as much as I feel I can, but still getting ill. Although according to the mindfulness book I am reading, I need to accept this, and concentrate on just 'being', rather than try and intellectualise it with my 'doing' part of mind.. at least I think that was the point :rotfl:!
On the plus side, as CathT mentioned I heard it would be lovely and warm tomorrow and Sat! I have tomorrow booked off as leave - OH and I are going to go to an exhibition, and then a special lunch somewhere (it's a surprise!). On Sat we are taking DD and two friends to Legoland with the discount tickets, so the sunshine will be a great boon.
PS CathT - I think you should check out the house prices in London for somewhere like yours. That should give you a warm glow thinking of how much money you've saved - and then with that warm glow you won't need to turn the heating onMortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89

Ohhh, have a lovely long weekend!Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

Sold another book on Amazon - £20 after fees, but need to post to Denmark, so no chance of popping there after work *considers briefly* :rotfl: will take to post office tomorrow
Also, was about to order book from amazon for book club - my friend is starting one up, our first meet is a week on Sunday. Then remembered RISI, requested a swap and it got okayed straight away! So even if I had bought it for 1p plus postage from amazon (£2.76), I reckon I have saved at least £1.50 this way.
Final good news - have found voucher for free Orla Keily designed 'wottle' or water bottle from Robert dyas online. Have printed a few and am hoping to get one on way home tonight.
And as SmlSave pointed out, have long birthday weekend to look forward to:D

I'm sure i won't have quoted this correctly! I will check the prices, might suddenly feel very happy with my house! Can you not get 3 bed detached houses for £165k down south?!?!?!?
Have a wonderful birthday MW, sounds like you have a lovely weekend planned xxJune 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
hey mw
hope you feel better soon- and it sounds like you have the right idea with the mindfulness! letting it go and not trying to do something about every feeling/thought is easier said than done for sure!! :rotfl:
well done on the freebies and yay on the long weekend (hopefully weather stays nice like today!)
CathT...3 beds?.... I wish! it is crazy that the price of a 1 bed flat in/around London can be the same as a house elsewhere.... then again I do feel the cold so perhaps a move up north isnt the best idea on the heating front!
