How handy you can hand deliver the book, postage seems to be eating up a lot of my profits!

I think decluttering can work wonders! 'Tidy house tidy mind'. I only said to DH earlier today how much happier I am in the house now we have decluttered. Was it a recommendation from that book you are reading?

Unfortunately the buyer wasn't in when I went after work (in the rain!) so still have the book AND the tube line I use to get there is shut this weekend! Need to work out if I can deliver this weekend...

The really good news is that this is a double pay month for OH, who gets paid every four weeks. This means we can put the whole pay packet into savings, along with my contribution to savings makes £2570!!! :j :j :j

Another piece of good news is that I FINALLY have had confirmation of my life insurance - I had to get a medical report done due to previous medical conditions - it is just over £9 a month for 200k worth of cover, 26 years, level term. I think it is a bit higher than I was originally quoted, but still a very good deal and a weight off my mind :D. OH inspired to apply for his own insurance, £12.69 pm (currently paying £31 a month so will be a big saving c.£216 pa for better cover). We will have 2 x £35 agent fees to pay for these, but well worth it for the lower premiums.

Grrrr at the buyer not being home! I do hope they weren't out spending money!! Are we not all MSE's!

2 paydays in a month is always nice, DH paid 4 weekly too but we haven't sussed out how to make that 13th pay an extra one!

Good news about your life insurance, we literally only have a policy to pay out the mortgage. Am thinking now we have DD we should have extra policies in place should anything happen to the both of us.

How are the migraines MW? I had one the other day after attending a study day. Am sure it was due to the paltry lunch they provided!

Just incase anyone thinks I might be the perfect MFW, I need to reassure you that I am not! Firstly I managed to muck up bank transfers between personal and joint accounts which means had to do a whole set up of bank transfers to try to change the fact I was overdrawn on my personal account the day after payday :o.

Yesterday ended up being a v high spend day - had leaving lunch for work colleague. Had hm lunch in the office, so just went for a drink. Went with friend who is in debt up to our eyeballs so bought her one too, spent £4.90. Plus £3 from personal money donation to leaving collection.

Sent one of the amazon books at post office for £1.11. Still have the other :rotfl:.

Then remembered it is my brothers bday - and my nieces and nephews 18th today, so had to run to card shop, pick up cards and stamps and dash to post box - made it with a few minutes to spare. £10 spent.

Need to chill after all that running around - £1.55 on herbal tea and a much needed sit down out the rain.

Spoke to brother on phone who is homeless and skint, said would transfer him £15 so that he can have a few drinks with friends this weekend.

Had charity pub quiz last night, spent £4 on entry me and OH, £3 on raffle, and £25 on drinks . We didn't win the quiz, but I did win 2 things on raffle, including one I will wrap up for friend's bday today ;).

So - £27.55 spent from personal account yesterday  (£42 if take brother's bday money out from there :eek:) from a £150 monthly budget!! Have to be very very good the rest of the month. I am definitely leaving that £25 of drinks as coming from our joint account!

Lie in today, and having one of my 4 a year haircuts later this afternoon:D. Am having early birthday celebrations today at a bar in town. Free to get in before 9pm, and wearing my nicest new free designer dress :D:D, am expecting to do lots of dancing, giggle lots with friends and look fab!

Had an absolute scream last night! Was lovely to see so many friends. Might have accidentally had a few cocktails too many, have woken up with scrapes on my head and knee :o from falling over on way home! Thought at 31 I was past that stage! :o:o:o

Despite raging hangover did manage to make it to acupuncture, which was good today, did some 'energy' points to try and make me feel a bit less exhausted. Must have worked as managed to find the energy to buy some beautiful vintage pied a terre shoe boots for £15 (from house account) and a vintage leather satchel style bag on way home for £5.99 (from personal account) :rotfl:! Add some egg and chips and a cup of tea for £2.80 from personal account and I managed to get back home by public transport despite my tube line being closed today!

My biggest achievement was however tackling the home insurance renewal - our renewal came in at £450. I tried a couple of comparison sites and got the same insurer coming up at £350. Called them up and gave the reference - had very confusing conversation about the slight differences between the two. I did point out that they would have to pay an arrangement fee to an agent for me effectively renewing, and asked if they could better their quote. They have now said will match the price :T so that is £100 saved today!

Am now feeling virtuous so off to watch X factor - perfect hangover telly.

Tube strike today - ended up spending 2 hours travelling (mostly standing waiting to get on the 'recommended' bus route, and then sitting on bus as traffic reached a total standstill!). Ended up 20 mins walk from my house - so have come back and am working from home now for the rest of the day. GRRR!! Last time I applied to tfl for refund on strike day they refused, so am not going to bother today.

Have applied for Halifax reward account, need to work out how get the three to circulate £1k so that can get 3 x £5 rewards. Am considering closing down my santander account, only had it a year but it takes forever for money to transfer to joint account.

  • Hi MW - I closed my Santander (Abbey) account for just that reason - it took ages to transfer anything and in these days of Faster Payments, it seemed to me there was no excuse.

I opened my Halifax Reward accounts on-line, one after the other one evening. I think they may have changed the rules now, but I opened mine when it was possible to have three. You can always try your luck and see what happens!

Although my 3x Reward accounts are linked, after reading a post by Money Queen, I tend not to circulate the money directly between them these days - I use my Lloyds Vantage account (which also requires a £1k/month top up) as a buffer.

Thanks Queen Bee - do you mean you applied three separate times to Halifax, or once you had one you could open the other two once you were logged into your account?

Just picked up DD from school - she is in a stinking mood, just cried all the way home, totally hysterical, would not calm down at all and being really demanding and rude. Taking her to swimming class in 10 mins, I think I will have a free schwim too to try and clear my mind. First time in the pool on my own for 3 weeks I think!

  • No, I applied for three separate accounts on line one after the other. I figured that itd be easier to slip through the net that way - although then the three account limit wasnt in place. Now, i think you can have a joint one and a single one, so between you and your OH, you could still have three. QB
  • Hmmm... may need to look into getting a halifax a/c myself (or 3 for me and OH) , seems a hassle to have to change d/ds and bills over but they do say no point in being loyal dont they! ;)
sorry about the tube strike..makes me glad i can drive to work I like to avoid the tube if possible dont know how people do it every day in rush hour!
sounds like DD is having/giving you a rough time at the moment...is there anything going on thats upsetting her or just having one of those days? hope the swim clears your head a bit !
glad the accupuncture is going well , I must book some more in when there is some money in sight... ;)
hope you have a relaxing evening after your swim
    tyo
