    what type of museum do you work in?

    without wanting to give too much of my real life away, I work for a small independent museum in London. I have worked for a couple of the national museums, but am much happier now I'm somewhere smaller as I get to do a little bit of everything. I do feel very fortunate careerwise, as I genuinely love what I do (apart from on Mondays, or any day before about 9.30am then I hate the world :D)

    What do you do in terms of jobs?

    Hi museumworker
    welcome! Im also pretty new to this and finding it very addictive! ;o)
    sounds like you are doing really well on the money saving, I hope you have a relaxing time away

    Hi Deleted_User, thanks for posting - a fellow :money: junkie is always welcome :D. Do you have a diary, or can you recommend any favourite challenges?

    The camping trip was FAB, it was a field surrounded by woods that you couldn't drive into, you had to wheelbarrow your stuff for about 10 minutes through the woods! Very basic, did have toilets (!) but no shower, the solar shower was a black plastic bag you could borrow to get heated up and then tie to a tree or something. I didn't bother, just hosed myself down with the cold water tap :rotfl: thank goodness it was so hot! Did very little apart from play frisbee and rounders, go for a run, and sit around the campfire in the evening. Bliss :T.

    I work in retail at Junior Management Level. Enjoy the job most of the time but dislike working weekends and grumpy customers :D

    Am back from the camping trip now, was hot, relaxed and just what I needed :D.

    Moneywise:
    * Spent a total of £35.00 on food and drink to take down for the weekend, and bought the most expensive sausages ever from the campsite farm (+ £4.50 for 6 :eek: not very MFW but were handreared and absolutely gorgeous).
    * camping was £32 for me and OH for 2 nights (DD at dad's), plus half a tank of petrol. OH brother was so pleased we came, it was a birthday gathering as well as a welcome escape.
    * £5 on three ice-creams too (well, it was hot :o and OH had 2, I only had 1!)

    Went for the longest run I have ever been on - that might not be saying much as I have only run twice in my life, both times for 1 min intervals for 1/2 hr! Went with a group, ran continuously for about 20 minutes, so am very pleased! Have goal of learning to run 5k continuously, so that I can get a practically free workout.

    Got back home this afternoon - local green fair was on, so OH hot footed it to his favourite herb stall, and bought 5 new herbs for the garden, £7.50. He is making an edible border, so not only looks good but can all be eaten too!
    * Did all surveys sent.
    * Entered 10+ competitions.

    Goals for the week:
    * transfer £400 from salary to savings :jnot doing, need larger buffer in joint account to cover OH's work expenses
    * [STRIKE]order pin for personal account and joint account so can use the things :D[/STRIKE] done!
    * [STRIKE]ask natwest to close old personal account (overdraft no longer interest free, no point in having it).[/STRIKE] Done, need to pop back again next week
    * list 5 things on ebay not done yet
    * [STRIKE]free sch-wim tomorrow afternoon[/STRIKE] Done, just the thing on such a hot day!
    * do any surveys sent so far, so good
    * enter 10+ competitions per day on target
    * look at cashback credit cards to do
    * [STRIKE]contact 2 other builders to arrange visits to quote on loft extension :j[/STRIKE] OH has done this
    * [STRIKE]cheap food shop (less than £30) to make up for spending on camping food[/STRIKE] £34, not too bad ;)
    * [STRIKE]night out friday, try and make it under £20[/STRIKE]. £28 :eek:

    Hi Drew - I am in awe of how much you have cut off your mortgage, in 5 years - nearly 100k paid off through overpayments alone :eek::j. what an achievement - I kowtow to your tips.

    I think the biggest tip is to start as early as possible and just keep going! :) It adds up hugely over the years.

    Go for it! :j

    Cheers,

    Drew.

    Making some progress today:
    * had my free sch-wim. Offer runs in local pool mon-fri 8-5, so will only be able to use on a Monday or Thursday when I finish early to pick up DD. Still, a good way of getting practically free exercise, a saving of over £2 each time. Managed 22 lengths while DD was in swimming class, including 6 backstroke - love it when the lane is empty :D! DD and I had a little play together after the class, which was great fun, and means we miss the rush to the showers.
    * A very rare NSD :j (but only because ignored DD's request for ice-cream :o feel like big meany sometimes).
    * leftover risotto for lunch today, and have made massive daal for dinner. OH is doing shop with strict shopping list in order to meet reduced means :rotfl:.
    * Small payment from tcb come through £6.54, will add to the (fingers crossed) £500 :j I think I will be able to transfer to savings on payday this Wednesday.
    * called natwest to cancel account, just need to take in id tomorrow to sort it out. Passport duly packed!
    * have ordered pin to new personal account, just joint account to work out :o
    * done surveys, no payers today though, just entries to prize draws :mad:
    * entered 10+ comps

    to add to 'to do' list:
    * [STRIKE]write list of dds/payers into natwest account[/STRIKE] done

    Am feeling exhausted now, off to eat dinner and see if there is something suitably trashy to watch on telly! :D Thanks to everyone who posted today, I will reply tomorrow when feeling a bit more rested.
