museumworker's quest to consign mortgage to history!

Hope you like bridesmaids, I did but in a strange way. It was hard to pond own it's genre but in the end stopped trying to analyse and just enjoyed the entertainment! Americans do seem to approach weddings in a very different way to us though.....Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -

Mortgage as at 1 Aug 2011: £181,076.57 :j:j:j!
OPs to date (5 Aug): £8430.59
Savings in interest made: £13,091
Shaved: 1 year 10 months off mortgage
Wonder if I could get it to into 170s by next month?
We also have £5150.80 in our savings account, £300 in my fd regular savers account (finally opened it, thanks Linz for the advice!) and £1785.98 in our FD mortgage account! So that equals £7236.78 in savings:D:D. OH and I said we'd get up to £8K in savings and then start OPing hard, so need to discuss further with him.
We do have the final payment due to our builders later in the month of £1200+VAT, but am going to check carefully as they owe us some money back off that.
Did shopping on way home, £55 spent which is amazing as we haven't done a proper shop for 3 weeks now, and are entertaining tomorrow night. Planning a mexican feast, so need to go and start boiling some pork belly for tamarind and chilli infused pork! We still have a lot more than I thought in the cupboards though, so when get back from holiday will try the storecupboard challenge for a few weeks.
Well done tyo on the shred - I plan to do a bit of that later in the weekend. Up for a challenge to see if we can exercise both days this weekend?
Fantastic progress, at the rate you're going you will have a 5 figure mortgage before me and I will be watching you on an epsiode of 'Escape to the Country' while you are searching for your holiday home.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -

Thanks everyone for the lovely messages.
SSS - I did like bridesmaids, I laughed almost all the way through. I would classify it as an intelligent 'chick flick', there was a good amount of pathos which balanced the light hearted bits. It did put me even further off the idea of marriage though :rotfl:.
TYO - definitely don't push yourself if you feel crud. I did 50 mins of target toning (10 mins solutions) today, and walked to and from the tube yesterday (40 mins) so am going to count that as my weekend exercise.
Just lost a bid on flebay for a futon chair for the spare/craft roomIt was the one I really want only a couple of hundred quid off the usual RRP as it was second hand. However, at least I have saved the £200 I bid
. The universe will deliver...
Had a fantastic weekend with very dear friend from new zealand staying with me. I met her lovely 2 yr old DD for the first time, she was such a cutie. My friend seemed really well and content, and we had a proper catch up. We had a home cooked mexican feast last night, complete with passion fruit margaritas and mexican cheesecake. Another mutual friend came over, and we all just ate and talked. My perfect evening. She loved the house, and it is so good to have enough space to put people up.
I do feel shattered now, especially as I had to get up at 7 on Saturday and start tidying up :rotfl:. Did 4 hours housework, I suppose I should really count that as exercise too :rotfl::rotfl:. We have listed another 40 or so cds on ama$on too, and ordered smaller padded envelopes for cds so will save on the postage by taking them hopefully under the 100g weight bracket.
Just had dinner, which was mexican leftover stirfry. Lovefilm tonight, and bed. Hope everyone else had good weekends too.

£400 OP made today from lodger's rent
On Monday started online spending diary (www.spendingdiary.com). Hope that will start to help me track my spending a bit better. So far this week have spent:
£8 on shoes being reheeled (house)
£1.54 on niece's bday card (house)
£0.49 on bottle of schweppes schwim water (personal)
£0.46 on stamp (house)
£6.99 on cos dress (house)
£1.40 on work collection (personal)
The dress is lovely and have worn it once already, think it will be perfect for our camping break.
Have had very sore head and a bad migraine on Monday night. The pain is near constant and is like a metal plate screwed to the base/back of my skull, with someone tightening and loosening the screws throughout the day. Did yoga video last night to see if that would help, felt better in myself but head pain still there.
Glad to have not been too affected by the riots, could hear helicopters and sirens and there was trouble 1-2 miles away but thankfully no closer. Round to friend's house for much postponed dinner tonight, looking forward to being fed and just need to pick up a bottle of wine to take along.Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89
