seanparkin wrote:No second confirmation though, but to be honest its not MILES out from what they sometimes charge for these things - I picked my original up four-five months ago, same spec except only 40gb hd and celeron 1.5ghz for £330, which was 30 quid more than this deal. Which in the fast paced world of IT is believable that it was correctly priced.
Err...the processor is a full P4, not a Celeron which makes a BIG difference, also the price of laptop HDD's compared to desktop differ greatly in price so that makes a BIG difference as well. Also, you don't mention it but was yours with a 14" screen or a 15" screen? because that makes a difference as wellWelcome, rogerramjet.

Err, lets start with Laptop Hard drives...
Today, you can buy a 40gb 2.5" drive for £38, and an 80gb 2.5" drive for £48. If you factor in the fact that 40gb drives probably cost not far off £48 at the beginning of this year, theres no change.
And, with the recent release of core2 cpus, Intel have reshuffled their existing range including big price cuts on prior technologies, IE centrinos.
Yes, apart from those two things my existing laptop is _Identical_ (I could literally replace the cpu and hard drive directly into mine) - and if you factor in standard IT depreciation costs on all the rest of the componments/chassis...
I'm not saying the price was correct (I KNOW it was wrong), but what I'm saying is that it could easily be interpreted as it being the correct price.DONE: Great North Run 09! Raised £452 for the National Autistic Society

It may be the correct price IF you build one yourself from a base unit - but try finding a pre-build with this spec at £300. Not going to happen... sorry.Being bored is so boring Im bored of it... :rotfl:0 -
Still havent even had a confirmation and the outlet one has been shipped, looks like I'l just have to cancel this0
-
Not had a confirmation yet either... have written this off in my mind already...0
-
I wonder what would happen if you phone up to cancel? I bet they wouldn't offer a further discount......
Has anybody had confirmation yet?0 -

I don't even know where to start taking that apart...
For a start, building a Budget/standard PC/Laptop will always be more expensive than finding the spec you're after at Dell etc, as the markup on components just blows any saving on labour you might get. Don't forget the £10 difference in hard drive price would be far less than that, at Dells trade prices. Same with processors. Dell buy tens of thousands of these things and will get a big discount.
Try reading my post rather than putting your 'oh you can build your own PC's cheaper!' mentality in.DONE: Great North Run 09! Raised £452 for the National Autistic Society
