Thanks for those suggestions - will give them a whirl.

Mousey it's too late to swap it as I've already opened the tin and done one beans meal - hardly made any impact on the contents, it's such a huge tin.

So it'll be cowboys/chili beans etc all week, which is not a thrilling prospect but think how little I'll need to spend.

  • Beans on toast, with lashings of butter, grated cheese on top, or poached egg, whichever you have handy. Can't beat it :)

My boys like Beany Casserole - a bit junky/snacky but ...

Place Beans (and sausage if you want) in a casserole dish, top with mashed potato, sprinkle grated cheese on the top and bake until cheese is melted and casserole is warmed through (we usually do it on 180C for 20-30 minutes - depends on how hot you want it).

They're also nice in with mince (could always use veggie soya instead - I have done it before when feeding veggie friends) and gravy, or to bulk up a corned beef hash.

Why not mash them up or blend them and then use as a tomato sauce or puree in recipes?

You could freeze it in little plastic bags

Add spoon full of curry paste and some sultanas for curried beans on toast.
Add some to a vegigie casserole
If you have a toasted sandwich maker use them in there with cheese.

    Soup:

Fry a chopped onion, add celery/potato/green or red pepper, in any combination, a tin of tomatoes, then when the veg are cooked, add beans, dilute as necessary (milk adds food value) and season with Worcester Sauce or Barbecue Sauce.

Add beans to cottage pie mince, sliced potato on top and sprinkle with cheese. Add to vegetarian cottage pie mix for veggie.

Hope you get to use the beans, can imagine how windy it will be in your house - let alone outside :)
