    Great recipes! thanks all. :T

Baked beans are a favourite of mine. I prefer them cold though, they taste much better and I never can resist sneaking a spoonful when I open a can.

I love them cold with cheese salad, and also have them cold with a egg, bacon etc breakfast! But warm on toast and also use them in casseroles, cowboy hotpot etc.
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

How about a dash of tom ketchup, herbs & Cheese for pizza beans - we used to serve them with those little value pizzas & chips - kids love 'em
Or plain ol' cheesy beens - great with potato of any kind but esp jackets or chips
I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I Know

  • This is a fave of mine,

Tin of beans, some tortilla chips, grated cheese.

Place some tortilla chips in a bowl, top with baked beans, (I pre warm mine, although I dont think it's always necessary, but i think it makes the benas cook down and soak in to the tortilla's a bit more!) top with more tortillas and grated cheese, pop in a oven, or under a grill until warmed right through and cheese has melted! Yummy, and i love it.

I am sure it could have onion or other bits added to it too, but i dont "do" any Veg!!

Also some chilli powder in the beans, works well too.

Beans count as one of the five portions of fruit and veg we should eat daily. One portion of pulses, one portion of fresh juice or one portion of dried fruit all count so baked beans count just as much as lentils or houmous. Provided we also have fresh fruit and green veg in the day too.

Beans on toast is a nutritious meal, particularly if on wholemeal, home made bread and served with orange juice. It is high in protein, soluble fibre and iron. They also contain calcium and folate and are very low in fat. Tinned beans often have a lot of salt and sugar in the sauce, but if the rest of the diet is low in these things that is not a problem.

There is no nutritional benefit in changing from value beans to branded. Some brands in fact contain saccharin which I would not eat. Hurrah for value beans!

I add them, drained and rinsed, to chillies. Best to add them near the end of cooking otherwise they can turn yo mush. And I like to add brown sauce when I'm having them on toast.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

If I forget to soak haricot beans overnight I just rinse off a tin of baked beans to add to my minestrone soup.

or add to a chili or any meaty / stew/ cottage pie etc to bulk it out.

I buy aldi's beans but I saw an advert for lidl saying they have 4 packs of heinz for £1!!!!!! dont know whether its this week or not as I get the emails twenty million times a week lol - bet mine will be sold out though.
