Ooh, I love beans! Obviously I don't eat them every week, and when I do I tend to go for the reduced sugar & salt kind. This is a really easy recipe that I like.

Sautee a chopped onion with one or two chopped carrots and a couple of cloves of garlic for about 5 minutes until soft. Add 2 cans of beans, 2 tbsp of finely chopped (fresh if possible) rosemary, and 1 litre of vegetable or chicken stock. Simmer for 10 minutes, then blend until mostly smooth, and serve with crusty bread - serves 4.

This also works with other tinned beans, like borlotti, and a squeeze of tomato puree.

  • Doctors can perscribe baked beans for dietery needs.

We add beans to shepards pies, curries and stews. We love them with chilli powder and some grated cheddar on the top with toast or on the top of a spud with cheddar.

I like Heinz beans but prefer Aldis baked beans at 11p a tin. They are sweet and thick and delish:D

I think that sounds like something we call Cowboy Beans - I make it by frying a chopped onion and then adding some cubed stewing steak and a stock cube and cooking gently until tender. Then I add a blob of ketchup and a tin of baked beans. IT's lovely, but my kids won't touch it!!

BTW my Dad's side of the family all ate copious amounts of baked beans - even cold with salad!! They still eat loads of them and my Aunts are 98, 95 and 90 and are as fit as fiddles!!!

  • Thanks for answering my question about suede. My brain wasn't working well enough to decipher it:o

I used to feed my children mashed beans as babies. However only one of them will eat them now:rolleyes: My personal favourite is plain and simple beans on toast. The toast has to be cut up into 9 squares per slice and the beans on top. No spread. Nice and easy. Baked beans and mash is another fave.

  • I remember when Heinz brought out baked bean meals. My favourite had taglitelli and cheese in. I cannot quite remember what it consisted of.

    I don't suppose anyone has a recipe?
  • I used to do a very cheap pasta dish with baked beans.

    Pasta
    Mince
    onion
    beans

fry onion and mince, cook pasta and add baked beans...lovely
