    Yeah yeah...

... except tinned baked beans are stuffed to the gills with salt (hypertension/heart attack/stroke central) and sugar (heart attack/stroke/diabetes and dental caries 'r us).

Don't listen to ANYTHING the likes of Heinz tell you. Lies designed to protect profits.

I wonder how many of those reading this are fully paid-up, baked-beans-eating members of the 30%-of-UK-adults-over-40-who-have-catastrophically-high-blood-pressure-but-don't-know-it club...?

    Enjoy...

  • i am sure that baked beans alone cant do so much damage to ones health.....its a mixture of foods and an inbalanced diet......

but then....oranic food is not organic these days as recent test have shown......

but this thread is for receipes..for people who do eat tinned baked beans......and we are all adults and can make our own minds up to what we eat.....in moderation...or what ever.....but thank you for your comments bud-miser... but i will carry on eating my baked beans.....as if i start worrying about everything that the food industry does to our food... as said earlier to our fresh foods etc... and that includes organic.... i would not eat a thing... as i have stated in other posts the only way to make sure there is no additives or pesticides etc.. in or on our food is to grow it and rear it ourselves... and that is an impossiblity.....for the majority of us...to be totally self sufficient...

I make curried beans as well, by frying up half an onion with the curry powder (or paste) and adding the beans and some raisins. Yum!

I also have been known to do a bean casseroile, with bakes beans, chick peas or kidney beans, chilli, other spices to taste, green peppers and a tin of tomatos - and whatever veg is around - and cook with dumplings on top. Me and OH really enjoy it, but the kids don't, sadly.

The other day I par-boiled sliced potatoes and layered them with cooked onion and beans, topped with cheese and breadcrumbs and oven baked for about 50 minutes.

I have also added them to shepherds pie, and made cheese and bean toasties - I don't think there is anything else, but if I think of anything I will let you know.
  • I like my beans on toast topped with grated cheese, and a few slices of hot peperami (come to think of it, I like just about anything topped with grated cheese and hot peperami..!)
  • I have a fav receipe I cook in the slow cooker and the whole family like it.
At the moment we've been having it at least once a week as I have 20 packs of sausages in the freezer (all reduced to 15p a pack!!!!)

Its great in the winter with crusty or garlic bread.mmmm

    Baked beans
    Red pepper
    onions
    garlic if desired
sausages (I normally brown them first and slice)
new pots (we all prefer new but u could use old sliced)
    mushrooms
    splash of chilli sauce
    1/4 pint vegetable stock
    1 tbsp tom puree
    1 tin chopped toms
    Salt and pepper to taste

Soften the chopped onions and potatoes ...brown the sausages.
Stir in the remaining ingredients and bring just to the boil.
    Transfer to the slow cooker
Cover and cook on low for 6-10 hours

    Hope you like it :)

Baked beans in a cheese & potato pie: mashed potatoes (preferably mixed with some grated cheese), layered with beans & sliced onion alternately (potato layer in dish first, then beans, then potato, then either onions or more beans, top with potato layer with more cheese on top. Delicious.
A layer of corned beef makes it even more filling.
    Real winter "sticks-to-your-ribs" food!
.... oh, and it's cheap, too.
  • its suprising what you can make witha tin of baked beans..

have any one tried silly things like baked bean ice cream :D

there is a reciepe in the bool for bean cheese cake:eek:
