What about working nights or would you rather your wife works full time while you stay at home?
not being funny but would you be saying that if my misses was the one at home and i was working, This is not at you but i am fed up with peeps saying that when a man stays home to look after the kids he's a lay about i can tell you this its much harder to be home with the kids than at work..................

So is it just for last year that she earned that?

Was it a one off bonus payment or a big pay rise for the year?
it was a one off payment.

You'll be trusting the school with your kids. Why not an experienced and qualified childcare provider?
all i can say is that the CRB check that they do is only good for the day that it get printed off. School you have to send them no way getting around that.

That's rather extreme to be honest. Most childcare providers would, upon conviction of an offence, be unable to continue their registration with Ofsted.

You already say you send one child to part time school? I assume pre-school? Do you trust the pre-school workers?

Only, you said your child isn't quite 5. And the law states that you do not have to send your child to school until their 5th birthday, so I assume you trust your pre-school staff?
All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.

I agree about the CRB check thing, though childcare providers do have a reputation to consider. However legally you dont have to send them to school, you could home school them. But what I dont understand is where all the mistrust with childcare providers is from. Childcare (and school) provide perfect opportunities for socialisation. Regarding your finances could you not find a job in order to work around your wifes hours so that you were bringing in some money, but working the childcare between you? As others have said nights, evening, weekends, and the extra day in the week your wife doesn't work. Would that not be feasible?

Doesn't mean you can't get a night shift does it?

Sounds like someone blew the £8k bonus rather than spend it over the year.

    I agree fully.

Unfortunately when dealing with the self-righteous brigade, sexism is an inherent trait. After all, we are usually talking about typical Tory-voting "when I was a lad we didn't even need money" mentality.

my child is in nursery. Right im not saying all are bad most would not harm a child but it will only take the odd one who does now im thinking this was a bad idea to ask for advice and voice why i wont put my child in with a childminder.

When I were a lad and needed money I went out and got work rather than get the begging bowl out for the tax payer to fill it.

Thankfully the Tories are going to put an end to free loading.
