Hi - the thing with credit unions is they traditionally lend to those who the banks won't - generally people on low incomes etc to stop people getting in touch with doorstop lenders who charge much more or getting payday loans. They aim to be competitive as much as possible but fair. I believe they are (or were) run by the locals for the locals (if that makes sense). I'm not sure but I think the aim is to not really make a profit or just a small profit and focus on what's best for the community - if that makes sense.
Obviously times have changed so they are changing but that was always the impression I got of their origins etc.
Obviously it's still borrowing and like I said before they all have different criteria etc but worth having a hunt around.

Hey, I'm back!
Has an amazing weekend - it went so fast, it was so nice being around those people again and doing the whole do you remember when...thing, was so sad as well, having to say goodbye all over again.
The hotel we booked on the secret hotel deal was amazing and way too posh for us! Had one of those cool showers where the spray comes out of about ten different places at once!
We watched the documentary and I got a copy to bring home as well which was nice.
The fundraiser raised £1000s too so that was good.
Didn't get to bed till five on sunday morning and I'm still knackered from that - must be getting too old to stay out drinking all night :rotfl:
Was nice to not think bout debts for a few days too, although of course now I'm back the first thing I did was go through my spreadsheets.:rotfl:
I was expecting to have to credit card the weekend and then pay it all back when I get the bonus at the end of the month but.... I managed to pay for it all with cash in the end so I am very pleased with myself for that one

I'm happy that I managed to pay the weekend in cash but I am definitely feeling the difference now when trying to find extra bits to pay off!
Am waiting on the girl I stayed with to transfer me the money for the hotel and what I had to lend her (her Norwegian card didn't work here!) and that wil give me another £220 to pay off. Hopefully that will be soon as I want to get those totals down. I haven't forgotten the 1st Sept AdamCan't wait to put the figures in and see if I have knocked that DFD date down!
Am tired today - went out for a meal with people I used to work with last night and it was a bit of a late one. Another £30 spent too. Does anyone else find that? In any month if I give in and spend a bit of money I just seem to end up spending more and more! The meal was very nice though
Going to ring T-mobile in a bit too - want to know why my bill has come in at £60.58 when it's normally £35 and I never go over!

Ouch @ the phone bill, have you got an online account you can log into and see the bill? I'm with T Mobile and I just do it all through the website. I hope it's wrong for you anyway!
I know what you mean about once you give in to spending it seems to go a bit pear shaped, at least we know we can get back on track afterwards

So, I called T-Mobile - all the extra costs are from phoning the banks and credit cards! Apparently the 08 numbers are charged at 40p a minute  So not only are the banks stealing my money, T-Mobile are also stealing my money to call them
I had problems logging into T-mobile online for ages and gave up cause my bill was always as expected anyway until now. That's sorted now as well so I can log-in and check what's going on. Won't be calling those numbers from my mobile again anyway!
Expensive mistake but I guess I've learntDebt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j0 -
